Hmmm what to do...

2008-07-31 22:05:51

I got an e-mail from a member about a post by
mattr. So I came here to delete it as requested, but
then I got to reading back over some of the posts. I
see that some you feel that all our devotee visitors
aren't bad. So now what do I do? Do I delete or not? The
person who asked me to is a good person. That I know. It
bothers me that posts are upsetting her, but if I delete
it will I be upsetting other people? I guess maybe I
should stop in more often. I am guilty of non atendance,
and am unsure of everyones feelings. Also the faces
seem to have changed in here. I noticed a few posts
that seem to be made by devotees or admirers. These
posts didn't seem to upset anyone. So maybe it's the
individual or maybe the content of the post. Not sure.
Another question I have is what if a member of the club
is interested in meeting a devotee/admirer. There
was a point when I was curious about it and was on a
mailling list. So now I need your input. Fire away guys.
If you would rather not post your opinions then
please e-mail me. Thanks gang. Hope everyone is well!!
Later.

Being a person before my first morning cup:)

2008-07-31 19:20:01

Another beautiful warm Fall day here in Iowa... My elderly Aunt Garnet and
Uncle Clair(my Dad's Brother) came by for a visit this morning. (Yeah they
woke me up:)) They were on their way to some in town doctor appointment,
and stopped to visit before their appointment. I don't know about you...
but it is so hard to be a person before my first cup of morning coffee...
"Oh we are so sorry that Will passed away..." my Aunt commented while
visiting to my Mom... "...but it's so nice you have his body propped up in
the living room like you do":):)
I recently had a physical... and this caffeine thing seems to be my only
affliction:)
Next Thursday, I are going to meet them over in nearby Backbone State
Park, about forty miles East, along with my Brother Jeff, Sister-in-law
Prudence and little Nephew Sam, for morning breakfast.
Hopefully I will have a cup of coffee before it:)
Have fun...

The $100 Tatoo

2008-07-31 07:39:57

Larry gets home late one night and his wife, Linda, says "Where in the hell have you been?"
He replies, "I was out getting a tattoo."
"A tattoo?" she frowned. "What kind of tattoo did you get?"
"I got a hundred dollar bill on my privates," he said proudly.
"What the hell were you thinking?" she said, shaking her head in disdain; "Why on earth would an accountant get a hundred dollar bill tattooed on his privates?"
"W ell, for one; I like to watch m y money grow, and two; once in a while I like to play with my money, three; I like how money feels in my hand and lastly; instead of you going out shopping, you can stay right here at home and blow a hundred bucks anytime!"

REAL FRIEND TEST !

This is GOOD...I expect it back too!

A simple friend, when visiting, acts like a guest. A real friend opens your refrigerator and helps himself.
A simple friend has never seen you cry. A real friend has shoulders soggy from your tears.
A simple friend doesn't know
your parents' first names. A real friend has their phone numbers in his address book.
A simple friend brings a bottle of wine to your party. A real friend comes early to help you cook and stays late to help you clean.
A simple friend hates it when you call after he has gone to bed. A real friend asks you why you took so long to call.
A simple friend seeks to talk with you about your problems. A real friend seeks to help you with your problems.
A simple friend wonders about your romantic history. A real friend could blackmail you with it.
A simple friend thinks the friendship is over when you have an argument. A real friend calls you after you had a fight.
A simple friend expects you to always be there for them. A real friend expects to always be there for you!
A simple friend reads this e-mail and deletes it. A real friend passes it on and sends it back to you!

Your Friday morning chuckle...

Someone who teaches at a middle school in Safety Harbor, FL forwarded
the following letter. It was sent to the principal's off after the
school sponsored a luncheon for the elderly. An elderly lady received
a new radio at the lunch as a door prize and was writing to thank them.

This story is a credit to all human kind. Forward to anyone who might
need a lift today!

Dear Safety Harbor Middle School;

God bless you for the beautiful radio I won at your recent senior
citizens luncheon. I am 84 years old and live at the Safety Harbor
Assisted Home for the Aged.

All of my family has passed away. I am all alone now and it's nice to
know that someone is thinking of me. God bless you for your kindness
to an old forgotten lady. My roommate is 95 and always had her own
radio but before I received one, she would never let me listen to
hers even when she was napping.

The other day her radio fell off the night stand and broke into a lot
of pieces. It was awful and she was in tears. She asked if she
could listen to mine and I said fuck you.

Thank you for that opportunity.

Sincerely,
Edna Walters

Just read the posts. Is there a chat meeting on

with working at the school every day and most evenings
taken up with school activities I never was able to be

business meeting with one person who directs the
converstation. They called them the moderators. But I assumed
everyone was welcome. Do I have to wait to be invited? Or
is it a drop in and everyone is welcome and each
chats at their own will. I had joined one of the
Wheelinons chats sometime ago and kind of felt like I was
barging in. You'll have to excuse me for I didn't know
that chat rooms had moderators and rules like that.
Now I am a bit more savvy. Not much but some. --I

The new bride comes out of the bathroom showered and wearing a beautiful robe.
The proud husband says, "My dear, we are married now, you can open your robe."
The beautiful young woman opens her robe, and he is astonished. "Oh, oh, aaaahhh," he exclaims, "My God you are so beautiful, let me take your picture. Puzzled she asks, "My picture?" He answers, "Yes my dear, so I can carry your beauty next to my heart forever".
She smiles and he takes her picture, and then he heads into the bathroom to shower. He comes out wearing his robe and the new wife asks, "Why do you wear a robe? We are married now." At that the man opens his robe and she exclaims, "oh, OH, OH MY, let me get a picture". He beams and asks why and she answers, "So I can get it enlarged!"

Missing Answers About Jonathan Magbie

By Colbert I. King
Saturday, December 11, 2004; Page A23

The first thing you notice when you read the D.C. Health Department's report into the death of 27-year-old quadriplegic Jonathan Magbie is that several critical pieces of information have been blacked out. The second thing that becomes obvious is that while the Health Department correctly points an accusing finger at Greater Southeast Community Hospital for giving Magbie substandard care, the report gives the medical staff at the Corrections Department a pass, even though the jail's doctors failed to make it clear to the hospital that Magbie could not be properly cared for at the Correctional Treatment Facility. Third, the report raises as many questions as it answers. And finally, you can't help wishing that Superior Court Judge Judith Retchin would read the report too, because there is no way on earth that a human being in Magbie's condition, and a first-time offender found guilty of simple possession of marijuana, should have been sent to a place such as the D.C. jail.

This week I turned to two sets of practiced eyes to review the Health Department's report. These health experts -- one in Washington, the other in Virginia -- reached similar conclusions about the quality of care provided at Greater Southeast. It was poor. But they also said that a failure of communication between the hospital and the jail contributed to the tragedy, as did the decision to incarcerate him in the first place.

Now for the report.

Let's start with salient aspects of Magbie's physical state in the days immediately preceding and at the time of his death, which occurred Sept. 24 while he was under the jurisdiction of the Department of Corrections.

On Sept. 20 Retchin sent to jail a man who had a high spinal cord disruption leading to no -- or limited -- use of his arms and no use of his legs. He had a permanent tracheotomy; was ventilator-dependent at least part of the time, especially when tired or sleeping; had partial diaphragm paralysis requiring the use of a diaphragm pacer; had a permanent indwelling stomach tube and a permanent indwelling urinary catheter, and contracture of the muscles and tendons.

What other conditions were present at the time of death?

Magbie had heart disease, asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease, low blood pressure, low blood sugar and pressure (or bed) sores. He also had a probable urinary tract infection leading to sepsis (or the absorption of microorganisms into the bloodstream), and probable pneumonia in his left lung.

Magbie was severely ill when he was released from the hospital and returned to the Corrections Department on Sept. 21. According to the report, his white blood count was abnormal -- but the result was blacked out. Rale and wheezing -- a possible indicator of asthma, pneumonia or heart failure -- had been heard during his hospital examination. But the report did not include any lab results or the result of a portable chest X-ray that Magbie had been given.

The Health Department was also silent on why the initial plan to admit Magbie to the hospital on Sept. 21 was changed to discharge him back to the Corrections Department. Also unanswered is the question of whether Magbie's problems, as documented in the hospital's emergency department on Sept. 21, had been fully disclosed to Corrections Department medical staff -- and if not, why. And if the Corrections Department had been informed, why did it take him back? The Health Department report did not address those critical questions.

There are other mysteries, too.

On Sept. 24, the day he died, Magbie was found unresponsive at the jail and was returned to the hospital's emergency room and given lab and X-ray tests. But the results of the chest X-ray, urine toxicity test and white blood count were blacked out in the Health Department report. Part of the urinalysis was blacked out, too. Why? Did the chest X-ray and white blood count show he had significant pneumonia?

And why was the urine drug screen result also blacked out? A possible clue: Page 11 of the report contains this entry at the time of his second and final admission to Greater Southeast on Sept. 24: "1:20 pm: Disposition time: Clinical impression: Altered mental status, Multi-substance abuse, Pneumonia, Urinary tract infection-Urospesis."

"Multi-substance abuse"? Yes, drugs. Magbie, the report shows, was given Narcan, which is a reversal agent for narcotics.

Which raises the question: What kind of recent narcotic substance would Magbie have had in his system, since at the time of the test he had already been in the custody of the Corrections Department for four days? As a quadriplegic, Magbie surely couldn't have taken anything by himself. There are no answers in the Health Department report.

Finally, there's the cause of death. The chief medical examiner attributed it to dislodgement of Magbie's tube. Who dislodged it, when and where? And what happened to the inner cannula, the device to be connected to a tracheotomy tube that helps a patient breathe? The report doesn't say, except to note that when emergency medical services staffers were ready to transport Magbie to the hospital on the morning of Sept. 24, "the EMS could not connect the oxygen to the tracheotomy tube, it would not connect. The [Correctional Treatment Facility's chief medical officer] stated he cut some tubing from another product and attached the tubing into the tracheotomy so the patient could receive oxygen." At that point, Magbie was unconscious at the jail and the inner cannula tube was missing.

And the Health Department considers this case closed?

Washington, DC: A 27-year-old quadriplegic man sentenced to serve
ten days in a Washington, DC jail on charges that he possessed a
minor amount of marijuana died while in custody last week due to
inadequate health care, including prison officials' failure to
provide him with a ventilator.
The victim, Jonathan Magbie, had been paralyzed from the neck down
since the age of four, was unable to breath on his own, and required
nursing care 20 hours a day.
Magbie was sentenced to spend ten days in jail on September 20, 2004
after pleading guilty to one charge of marijuana possession. Though
prosecutors had recommended probation, the judge in the case ordered
Magbie to serve jail time - noting that the defendant had told pre-
sentence investigators that he would continue using marijuana
because it made him feel better.
NORML Executive Director Keith Stroup called Magbie's death "one of
the most tragic results of marijuana prohibition I have witnessed in
the 35-year history of the organization."
He concluded: "Although Jonathan Magbie died from causes currently
under investigation, it is clear that his death was the result of
the overly punitive laws criminalizing the use and possession of
marijuana. There is little doubt that were it not for marijuana
prohibition, Jonathan Magbie would still be alive today. He did not
deserve to die for smoking marijuana."

Re: my two cents

AMEN ALI!!! I was born with Spina Bifida but
because my parents insisted I be mainstreamed, I have
ALWAYS had more contact with able-bodied people. Now
that I am older I find that I am more attracted to and
if I'm honest about it even more comfortable with
able-bodied people. I joined these clubs so I COULD however
make some friends who understand some of the problems
I face. However, I still find it easier to
associate with able-bodied people. Probably cause my
parents always made me believe that I was just as
"normal" as everyone else just different. And EVERYONE is
DIFFERENT. I also agree with you Ali that it is hard enough
when ONE person in the relationship is disabled. Even
though I am mostly attracted to able-bodied guys I have
had two disabled boyfriends and even though they
didn't work out I'm not totally eliminating anybody.
There aren't enough fish in the sea (or in my case pond
LOL) for me to be that picky. And one other thing,
isn't there enough prejudice against us without
condemning someone who LIKES us?? Doesn't make sense to me.
Well I guess I better stop now. I'm riled up. Way to
go though Ali you said it well.

LETTER TO GOD

2008-07-26 14:40:25

This kid has nailed it!
A little boy wanted $100.00 very badly and
prayed for weeks, but nothing happened.
Then he decided to write God a letter requesting
the $100.00.
When the postal authorities received the letter
to God, USA, they decided to send it to the
President.
The president was so amused that he instructed
his secretary to send the little boy a $5.00
bill. The president thought this would appear to
be a lot of money to a little boy.
The little boy was delighted with the $5.00
bill and sat down to write a thank-you note to
God, which read:
Dear God: Thank you very much for sending the
money. However, I noticed that for some reason
you
sent it through Washington, DC., and they
deducted $95.00 in taxes.

my two cents

hello everyone,<br
about the whole "devotees" thing. so i finally decided
i needed to say my thoughts before it drives me
crazy. in the first place i don't think there should be
any problem with men (able-bodied or disabled) being
attracted disabled women. and i think it pretty safe to say
a bunch of you would be a little depressed if
nobody found you attractive. however if the attraction
is because they believe it will be less difficult to
take advantage of her more easily (rape or molest),
then thats different. and to you other girls who said
its a bizarre fetish, i hate to bring it to your
attention but you are being biggots. these guys aren't
evil, just not the same as you big deal. this isnt the
1950's when it was only acceptable to date with in
hetrosexual, same race, and with abled-bodied persons.<br
just so you know where i'm coming from i have a
boyfriend (a-b). i'm not sure i would date a disable guy
(but i wouldn't totally eliminate the possiblity of it
one day), but one disabled person (myself) in a
relationship is enough for me. i have many friends who are and
arent handicapped, but thats just my prefernce to date
a guy who isnt in a chair...maybe i'm just a
bizzare gimpy girl living vicariously through her abled
bodied boyfriend<br

Hi Everyone!!

THE STRING AND THE SPOON

2008-07-25 11:21:56

A timeless lesson on how consultants can make a difference
in the profitability of an organization.
Last week, we took some friends out to an expensive,
upscale restaurant and I noticed that the waiter who took
our order carried a spoon in his shirt pocket. When the
busboy brought our water and utensils, I noticed he also
had a spoon in his shirt pocket. Then I looked around saw
that all the staff had spoons in their pockets. when the
waiter came back to serve our soup I asked, "Why the
spoons?"
"Well, "he explained, "the restaurant's owners hired
Andersen Consulting to revamp all our processes. After
several months of analysis, they concluded that the spoon
was the most frequently dropped utensil. It represents a
drop frequency of approximately 3 spoons per table perhour.
If our personnel are better prepared, we can reduce the
number of trips back to the kitchen and save 15 man-hours
per shift."
As luck would have it, I dropped my spoon and he was able
to replace it with his spare. "I'll get another spoon next
time I go to the kitchen instead of making an extra trip to
get it right now," he said.
I was impressed. I also noticed that there was a string
hanging out of the waiter's fly. Looking around, I noticed
that all the waiters had the same string hanging from their
flies. So before he walked off, I asked the waiter, "Excuse
me, but can you tell me why you have that string down
there?"
"Oh, certainly!" Then he lowered his voice. "Not everyone
is so observant. That consulting firm I mentioned also
found out that we can save time in the restroom. By tying
this string to the tip of you know what, we can pull it
out without touching it and eliminate the need to wash our
hands, shortening the time spent in the rest-room by 76.39
percent."
Carefully thinking through this improvement, I then asked,
"After you get it out, how do you put it back?"
"Well," he whispered, "I don't know about the others, but
I use the spoon."

Yes, to, kacey_9141 I never posed before but you
moved me to when you posted my screen name online and
accused me of being something I never heard of before.
You called me a devotee I never heard of a devotee
and still don't know what it is and what you are
saying sounds really strange. I would not be posting
this to a public forum but you posted my name to a
public forum that I was some kind of nut or something. I
told you I was not a nut but I used to and still do
volunteer work with disabled people and only contacted you
because you were nearby here in NC I am in NC you acted
like you were my friend then you all the sudden said
that no able guy would be interested in a woman in a
wheelchair. I figured you have problems and didn't contact
you because you did not want to be contacted by me
and left it at that. But no you had to post my screen
name to a posting that I was a nut. I do not
appreciate that at all. I figure you will always be single
because if you treat ever guy like you treated me you
will be single. I really figured it should end when we
stopped talking but you had to post this to the public.
Anyway I don't know what a devotee is and don't care.

LITTLE JOHNNY

2008-07-25 00:52:22

Little Johnny hears the word whorehouse in school and asks his father
what it means. His father is quite shocked, and replies, "Well, uh, you
go there to, uh, have a good time."

Little Johnny starts screaming and hollering that he wants to go there
too, but his father insists that he's too young. Saturday night his dad
and a few friends go to "Suzy's" to "have a good time," not knowing
that little Johnny is following them.

After his father leaves, little Johnny enters the whorehouse and tells
the Madame that he wants to have a good time. She's a bit puzzled at
first, but being a kindhearted lady she gives him three doughnuts and tells
him to leave.

Later that night he comes home, his parents all worried. His father
asks him where he's been.

"In a whorehouse!" he exclaims proudly.

"WHAT?" "Well, ... uh ... how was it?" the dad asks.

Johnny replied, "I managed the first two without any problem, but I
just licked the last."

2008-07-24 13:56:47

Recently the now Russia has pondered what to do with the founder of
Russian Communism, Lenin, body. Lenin's body had been on display in Red
Square during the time of the Soviet Union. But now...?
This reminds me of what happened in Russia, then the Soviet Union, back in
the early 1950s when Joseph Stalin died. Stalin had been such a tyrant
when he ruled that after he died there was talk by the following his death
Soviet Union officials of not even burying Stalin on Soviet Union soil.
During this time several countries were contacted for possible out of
country burial sites. The United States for example was contacted, but
since the US had just fought a Soviet Union backed North Korea in the
Korean War, the United States refused. After several other country's
refusal, the newly established country of Israel stepped forward and
volunteered land to bury Stalin. But after much consideration the proposal
was denied. Since Israel has the world's highest rate of RESURRECTION FROM
THE DEAD:)

I was sitting at the counter in a diner recently,
next to a blond woman who was engrossed in reading
her newspaper.
I noticed one of the headlines that blared:
"12 Brazilian Soldiers Killed." I could see that
she shook her head at the sad news as she read
the article.
Then, suddenly she turned and asked,
"How many is a Brazilian?"

Kacey,<br
It is ones like yourself who I'd hope I can help
understand things. You say you've had two relationships with
able bodied men who were attracted to you by something
other than your chair. What, do you know if they have a
physical preference for only women with that trait. I know
men who like blondes, have to be a certain height and
I could go on and on. I know others who have no
preference but under not instance would they date a woman in
a chair, no matter how sexy or pretty she was, not
going to have a burden in there life.<br
idea whether I'd be attracted to you. If you think
your being in a chair will make me instantly attracted
to you, your sadly mistaken. I've dated several
chair users who did nothing for me and we don't see
each other anymore. It takes many things to make you
interesting to me. Who you are on the inside is just as
important as what I see on the outside.<br
my preference are wrong, even sick, then that is
your right. I'll not plead with you to agree, I'd
never try to force my views upon you. Others choose to
enjoy knowing they have something to offer me most of
there friends cannot. <br
so I hope you can understand what I've tried to say.

Ok Williewonka, it's not that I can't see myself
as desirable or that I think disabled women can't be
with abled body men or anything of the sort. I have a
problem with the people who SEEK OUT women because of
their handicap, why would anyone (able body or
handicap) seek out a person only for there handicap instead
of what the person is about? Devotess, by the
definition I was given are attacted to people and sexually
aroused by the others disability. Now I don't know about
you, but I find that kinda sick! Since being in my
chair, I have had two relationships with abled body men
and I can assure you it was NOT my chair that brought
them into my life. Just my opinion, sorry if I have
offended anyone. Awhile back someone posted about a
devotee study...it was quite interesting.<br

Jasper's poem

2008-07-21 06:37:14

Jasper, I really enjoyed the poem you posted
here. While the pain I'm feeling is as strong as any
I've ever felt, your poem was a "tylenol of words"
that eased the pain and I thank you for it. This has
been extremely tough for me, more than I ever
expected, and hard for me to explain. I only knew Chris
from these clubs, yet to me he was like my next-door
neighbor, a man who made me laugh, who showed me respect,
and who inspired people. God's gain is a tremendous
loss for all of us that knew him! Thanks again.<br

Re:So Sad

Danielle Steele wrote a book about her son's
death ...It isn't even close to the circumstances of
Chris's but the name of it was "His Brght Light"...This
has stuck in my mind the past few days...Truly Chris
was a bright light. When he entered the chat room it
was instantly alive and lite up. If you entered when
he had already arrived you felt the warm glow of
friendship. He was always one to speak to you as soon as you
came in and make you feel welcome and give you a
chuckle or laugh. I could sit hours (and have many a
time) just listening to him talk and be amazed at his
cheerfulness and attitude about life. He rarely ever
complained about the stress or obstacles in his life. He
will truly be missed. A "Bright Light" has gone out of
my life with his passing.. Steph my thoughts
continue to be with you and hope this knowledge will give
you some comfort.....I only hope that in time the
Darkness that has suddenly surrounded us will in time
become a warm glow that will heal our heart aches and
radiate a peace within our souls knowing that Chris took
our love for him with him when he left us. ...Dorla

Just a note on stopping the baclofen...if one day is all he misses that's fine I'm assuming. However...my doc told me that if I ever try to stop baclofen to go to another med, it needs to be done slowly or else seizures could or will occur by stop taking baclofen if not done in moderation.
Todd <iukcampusguy@...

Hi.
My boyfriend is a c6 quad from an accident. After months of rehab and
me trying to make him understand I would never leave him and he is
still a man [good night, what a job] I convinced him we needed to get
sexually active again. He can get erections easily. He always wanted
to have the same feeling of "getting off" as he had before the
accident.
We have had the intimate relationship just like pre accident but it
left him a bit unsatisfied. We heard from another friend that using a
vibrator on his penis might help some. (not the penis shaped ones but
like a neck or body massager)
The one we purchased is from HOMEDICS at Walgreens. It was $48.00
(don't use your flex plan spending because it will get rejected as
non-medical - LOL)
Applying this to his underside of his penis, just below the head, for
about 4-5 minutes and then waiting a couple minutes and then
reapplying it 4-5 mins. Doing this a few times to several times, he
will have all kinds of orgasmic feelings. Once he starts responding
to the vibrations, I just hold it on his penis til he is finished. He
does "cum" [retrograde] as you can see it in the urine after cathing
him.
He has decided it is best to reduce the baclophen [muscle spasm
medicine] a day before we do this. It makes things "stiffer" and a
more intense outcome results. [This decision you make on your own or
talk to your MD]
He was so ashamed and afraid of himself and what may or may not
happen with us being intimate after he got home. It took me forever
to get him to come to grips with this accident and the fact we needed
to get on with things. Yes, it's not the same but I love him and care
for him no matter what. He is still the same person, just can't walk
now. Why should that be a big deal? I would never think of leaving
over this accident or the care he now needs.
He was pretty insistent I post this after following the conversations
of the group lately. If anyone wants more details, please feel free
to email us directly at iukcampusguy@...
we would be happy to chat with you.

Please double up on your prayers. His life is in
Gods hands right now. They found a large ulcer in his
stomach and cauterized it hoping to stop the bleeding.
Then gave him two units of blood. Later they did a
c-scan of his stomach and found a tear in his colon
requiring surgery. His large colon had to be removed. He
pulled through the surgery even though the doctors said
he had a slim chance of making it. He has not woke
up since the surgery. His kidneys are also beginning
to fail. They have increased the fluids and they
seem to be doing some better now. <br

Bill, It's nice meeting you. I broke C 5-7 but
function at C 7/ 19 years post. I have one hand that curls
about half way but when I lay down it closes into a
fist. The other hand curls some and like the other one
curls more when I lay down. I have always just
strecthed out my fingers by laying them against my chest
and flattening them with the other hand while raising
my wrist. This way I can strecth them good. I will
also lay them flat under my pillow at night. They
never stay that way but it strecthes them for awhile.
lol<br
to whether or not the curling into a fist can be
totally avoided. I wish you luck is keeping them from
curling into a tight fist. <br

Re: [Spinalcordinjury] busting

2008-07-15 17:55:14

I'm T-4/5 para complete. I was able to ejaculate 3 times with a lot of fast stimulation on my own but after that I was unable to do so again. I then did some research and bought a Ferti Care Medical vibrator that vibrates at high frequencies and I can ejaculate every time now as long as I have a very firm erection. Since I don't have any sensation I get no enjoyment out of it, just autonamic dysreflexia. I purchased the vibrator to clear out a lot of bacteria that built up in my left testicle causing me to have chronic UTI's, epidydimitis, and even sepsis that caused me to go into septic shock which I didn't know at the time could be fatal. I use it regularly now to keep any possible bacteria from building up and to keep my sperm healthy to have kids later on. The vibrator is expensive however, $650 when i bought it, it's now $695. Here is the website for further information: http://www.medicalvibrator.com/. This cost of the vibrator outweighs the costs and
inconvenience of going to the hopsital to have sprem retrieved. I can't remember the exact level of injury but it's supposed to work better on people with high level injuries. There is a link on the site, clinical studies, that goes into more detail. It's FDA approved however insurance companies won't cover the cost.

Today Chris has taken a turn for the worse. He
has fluid on his lungs, had a lung collapse and they
put a chest tube in. His heart stopped again this
morning requiring CPR. He has bleeding in his stomach and
they are not sure why. They will do an endoscopy to

one. <br

A question for quads and their fingers.

2008-07-15 03:01:51

Hi, my name is Bill and I'm a c 5/6 complete, 4
years + post. I was wondering what other quads like me
do to keep their fingers curling up into a fist? My
fingers now curl about a forth of the way around. When
I'm sitting at the table I will put my hand out flat
and use my elbow/forearm and flatten them out. I saw
a TV show that had a quad in it and his fingers
were curled all the way around into fists. That didn't
look like a very good thing to happen. Have a nice day
and thanks!<br

PICTURE OF LIFE

2008-07-13 20:40:12

Picture of the Year-
Read the article FIRST-This is absolutely awesome!
A picture began circulating in November. It should be "The Picture of the Year," or perhaps, "Picture of the Decade" It won't be. In fact, unless you obtained a copy of the USpaper which published it, you probably would never have seen it.
The picture is that of a 21-week-old unborn baby named Samuel Alexander Armas, who is being operated on by surgeon named Joseph Bruner.
The baby was diagnosed with spina bifida and would not survive if removed from his mother's womb. Little Samuel's mother, Julie Armas, is an obstetrics nurse in Atlanta. She knew of Dr. Bruner's remarkable surgical procedure. Practicing at VanderbiltUniversityMedicalCenterin Nashville, he performs these special operations while the baby is still in the womb.
During the procedure, the doctor removes the uterus via C-section and makes a small incision to operate on the baby.
As Dr. Bruner completed the surgery on Samuel, the little guy reached his tiny, but fully developed hand through the incision and firmly grasped the surgeon's finger. Dr. Bruner was reported as saying that when his finger was grasped, it was the most emotional moment of his life, and that for an instant during the procedure he was just frozen, totally immobile.
The photograph captures this amazing event with perfect clarity. The editors titled the picture, "Hand of Hope." The text explaining the picture begins, "The tiny hand of 21-week-old fetus Samuel Alexander Armas emerges from the mother's uterus to grasp the finger of Dr. Joseph Bruner as if thanking the doctor for the gift of life." Little Samuel's mother said they "wept for days" when they saw the picture. She said, "The photo reminds us pregnancy isn't about disability or an illness, it's about a little person."
Samuel was born in perfect health, the operation 100 percent successful.
Now see the actual picture, and it is awesome...incredible....and pass it on. The world needs to see this one!

Hi Folks-
I joined this group as I am in search of the world's longest surviving
quadriplegic. I think it's my Dad, injured in a diving accident in
1961 at age 19 and still here (driving, enjoying computer, book-
keeping). ........But am interested in hearing of other loooooong time
survivors, their struggles, accomplishments, every day life
etc....Thanks, Lori

Amusing story

2008-07-09 23:03:03

Yesterday I was out with my pet Shar Pei (you
know, those short, chubby wrinkled dogs), and I stopped
to give Indigo some water. This lady starts asking
me about her, which I'm used to, since it's a rather
unusual breed. She's asking me how long I've had her, did
I train her myself, etc. All of this seems
perfectly normal, until she starts to leave. Then she says,
"I think it's so wonderful how much service animals
can do!" She must have thought Indigo was my aide!
Remember, we're not talking about a German shepherd or a
labrodor- A SHAR PEI! Sure she's cute and cuddly, but it
took me six months just to teach her to stop drinking
out of the toilet! Plus she was on just a regular
leash, no harness or anything. I guess it's never
occurred to this person that disabled people can have pets
simply for recreation. God only knows what she'd think I
do with my fish :)

Re: Amusing story

you....but at the lady....and then your comment on what you
do with the fish.!!!! Some people dont have a

Re: Dorla Surfing

I really liked your message dorla. I think there
are a lot of people out there who dont have anything
nice to say and if they dont have anything nice to
say they shouldnt say anything. Im starting a club
in Sydney Australia for wheelchair users and am
looking for members who wont to chat with Australian with
similar disabilities. I chat on sites here that are run
by organisation and are trying to get people from
them to join. I would like people from all over the
place to be able to meet and maybe ask question that
other people may have answers to. I would really like
to see people from all over the world be able get
together and enjoy them selfs. People shouldnt have to
put up with sites that encourage that sort of
harassment. My site is in the links page.

Re: Surfing

Lately I have had e mail invites to several
clubs. I have been reading their posts and let me just
say....We don't really have a lot of posts in this club but
when there are posts they sure aren't fussing and
fighting. It's amazing how people want to put down in
writing for the whole world to see all their slamming
remarks. Again I am thankful for this club and all the
nice people in it. We truly are a considerate caring
group.. Dorla

Anyone in Miami

2008-07-09 02:21:40

Hi, I am new to this group. I work for a
foundation in Panama that strives to give everyone an equal
opportunity to enjoy life, work, study, have access and
develop as people. This is a little hard here in an
underdevelopped country but our group is doing some nice work. I
will be going to Miami to be with my brother who lives
there for a couple of weeks, starting on the first week
of july. Just wondering if someone lives there so
maybe we can get together or establish some contacts,
share ideas and be friends. I am 45, just "unmarried"
and enjoy reading, writting, music, and arts in
general (so I won´t bore any person), well, hope somebody
answers this.

THE MORAL OF THE STORY

2008-07-08 02:40:30

[INLINE]

This actually made ME laugh.
i was a very happy person. My wonderful girlfriend and I had been
dating for over a year, and so we decided to get married. There was only
one little thing bothering me...It was her beautiful younger sister.
My prospective sister-in-law was twenty-two, wore very tight mini-skirts,
and generally was bra-less. She would regularly bend down when she was
near me, and I always got more than a pleasant view of her cleavage. It
had to be deliberate. She never did it when she was near anyone else.
One day my fiance's little sister called and asked me to come over to
check the wedding invitations. She was alone when I arrived, and she
whispered to me that she had feelings and desires for me that she couldn't
overcome. She told me that she wanted to make love to me just once before
I got married and committed my life to her sister.
Well, I was in total shock, and couldn't say a word. She said, I'm going
upstairs to my bedroom, and if you want one last wild fling, just come up
and get me.
I was stunned and frozen in shock as I watched her go up the stairs. When
she reached the top she pulled off her panties and threw them down the
stairs at me. I stood there for a moment, then turned and made a beeline
straight to the front door. I opened the door, and headed straight towards
my car.
Lo and behold, my entire future family was standing outside, all clapping!
With tears in his eyes, my father-in-law hugged me and said, We are very
happy that you have passed our little test. We couldn't ask for better man
for our daughter. Welcome to the family!
And the moral of this story is: Always keep your condoms in your car!

Any vegetarians out there?

2008-07-06 22:41:36

Hey guys,<br
vegetarian (mostly for the moral aspects) and I was
wondering if anyone had any input as to how the nutritional
changes affected them. I know the actor Mitch Longley is
one. Getting an acceptable amount of protein and iron
would be the most difficult aspects, I imagine. This
would be ovolacto vegetarianism, not veganism. Any info
you guys could pass along would be great.

VIRGIN WOOL

2008-07-06 15:54:05

Virgin Wool
Mrs. Morris Siegel beckoned to a salesman in Bergdorf Goodman's, pointed
to white wool designer dress on a mannequin, and said, "Hey Sonny boy,
so how much is the dress on that store dummy over there?"
"That dress is $899.95, Madam," sneered the rather
snotty salesman.
"Oy! For $99.95 I could get the same dress at
Klein's Bargain Store downtown!"
"But Madam," said the salesman, "You'll find that the
dress at Klein's is recycled wool. This original is
100% pure virgin wool."
"Nu! So for $800 I should be caring what the lambs do
at night?"

I WEAR THE PANTS

2008-07-05 16:56:55

I Wear the Pants

A young couple, just married was in their honeymoon suite on their wedding night. As Emma undressed for bed, the husband tossed his pants to his bride and said, "Here put these on."

She said "What?"

He said "Put these on."

She put them on and the waist was twice the size of her body. "I can't wear your pants", she said.

"That's right!" said the husband, "and don't you ever forget it. I'm the man who wears the pants in the family!"

With that, she flipped him her panties and said, "Try these on." He tried them on, and found he could only get them on as far as his kneecap. He said "Hell, I can't get into your panties."

She said, "That's right and that's the way its going to be until your attitude changes!"

Engineer's explanation..

2008-07-05 11:27:29

It is exactly on target. If an engineer tried to describe how he was

going to build a city where N.O. is to a group of investors, they would laugh him out of town!

So here we sit with a trillion $ problem which we will in all probability spend trying to rebuild

and protect the same swimming pool! Or was that cesspool?

Someone figured it out.

of a rental car company that could provide a car

Re: [Spinalcordinjury] PLEASE READ~ RESPONSABILITY

2008-07-04 15:27:31

No matter who, what, is responsible on the surface, be it the Democrats or the Republicans, state or federal. Local or not, the ultimate responsibility for the devistation lies on the shoulders of the highest government official. How can the President decide and dictate what happens in other countries and nations, be it War or peace. If he officiate over and solve problems in the United States.
Scott Wesner <sawesner@...

In case you arent familiar with how our government is SUPPOSED to work:
The chain of responsiblity for the protection of the citizens in New Orleans is:
1. The Mayor
2. The New Orleans Director of Homeland Security (a political appointee of the Governor and an individual who reports to the Governor)
3. The Governor
4. The Head of Homeland Security
5. The President
What did each do?
1. The mayor, with 5 days advance, waited until 2 days before he announced a mandatory evacuation (at the behest of the President). Then he failed to provide transportation for those without transport even though he had hundreds of buses at his disposal.
2. The New Orleans director of Homeland Security failed to have any plan for a contingency that has been talked about for 50 years. Then he blames the Feds for not doing what he should have done. (So much for political appointees)
3. The Governor, despite a declaration of disaster by the President 2 DAYS BEFORE the storm hit, failed to take advantage of the offer of Federal troops and aid - Until 2 DAYS AFTER the storm hit.
4. The Director of Homeland Security positioned assets in the area to be ready when the Governor called for them
5. The President urged a mandatory evacuation, and even declared a disaster State of Emergency, freeing up millions of dollars of federal assistance, should the Governor decide to use it.
Oh and by the way, the levees that broke were the responsibility of the local landowners and the local levee board to maintain, NOT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.
The disaster in New Orleans is what you get after decades of corrupt (democrat) government going all the way back to Huey Long.
