Friday night chats

2008-03-31 16:13:38

What has happened. We didn't have a very good
turn out last night for our Friday night chat. Did
everyone forget. We have been having chats almost every
night but it seems we see very few newcomers. Sure hope
to see more of you there soon. Check the chat room
out every night. There is usually someone
there.<br

get off your high horse Shawn

2008-03-31 15:55:18

Shawn,

Why do you like to verbally attack Scott all the time. He had his spat with the guy from NC, but do you know they already apologized in a personal email. If I were you I would stay out out of Scott's business. He did nothing wrong to you, except take the bashing from you. ON A WEEKLY BASIS.. GET OVER YOUR HIGH HORSE AND LEAVE HIM ALONE.

THANK YOU,

A lady goes to the doctor and complains her husband is losing interest in sex. He gives her a pill but warns her it is still experimental. He tells her to slip it in his mashed potatoes at dinner and she does.

About a week later she's back at the doctor and says, "The pill worked great. I put it in his mashed potatoes like you said. It wasn't five minutes later and he jumped up, raked all the food and dishes on the floor, grabbed me, ripped all my clothes off and ravaged me right there on the table."

The doctor says, "I'm sorry, we didn't realize the pill was that strong. The foundation will be glad to pay for any damages."

The lady replied, "Naah, That's okay. We aren't going back to Denny's anyway."

You might try mcmobilitysystems.com for some info
and the type of lock down system we are thinking
about is called EZ-Lock,(close enough anyway.) This
company is located in Mentor, and did our mini van. There
are others around the state as well, one in Akron I

"what is it exactly that "I" did"
i will tell you exactly what it is that you did. 1st
of all, you promote wilmington medical supply, in your
eyes they can do no wrong, i am here to disprove that,
plain and simple, 2nd your trying to blame all of the
companies problems on the one person who exposed them,
me. your worse than a polotician. 3rd, terri is in a
wheelchair too dumbass, or did you forget that.I heard
he got fired too and moved to florida. 4th, paying
someone under the table is illegal, you were in law
enforcement so you should know that!! so if i did say
that, why didnt you do anything about it? as a former
law enforcement agent it would have been the right
thing to do, but then again, you dont always do the
right thing, do you?? thats why your no longer in law
enforcement isnt it? but i wont go there, just yet.
paying less then minimum wage (which was what i was
getting) is also illegal but when your disabled and
cant find work, you do what you gotta do!!

Re: [Spinalcordinjury] This is getting stupid!

Steve, your a funny guy. i don't blame you for
wanting to sweep all of this under the rug, i would
want to if i was in your position, it must be
embarrassing to be exposed like that. you cant stand
up and act like an adult because you have no spine.
you knew about all of the underhanded things that were
going on in Wilmington medical supply, but you did
nothing, hell, now your even promoting it!!! you
helped promote medical supplies at no cost, but then
charge your customers 3 months later, your company
makes promises it cant keep and then calls it a waste
of time and space when you are called out on it! me,
and others on here have noticed that you have not even
tried to deny the things we have wrote about in these
posts, instead you blow them off. maybe you should
leave. but rest assured, i will follow, and i will
warn everyone of you, martin, and Wilmington medical
supply. And as i follow you, from group to group, I'm
sure i will find more and more people that your
company has lied to just to get that Medicare check,
and our numbers will grow and eventually, that lying,
cheating, wife beating little con artist will be out
of business. and your cash cow will be put out to
pasture

2008-03-27 09:14:56

Hi everybody! It's me steve from wilmington Medical. I will be the
one who stands up and acts as the adult now. How many of you would
like to take this argument to the private email accounts and stop
wasting all of your time and space. This is obviously an attempt on
his part to try and hurt the company by throwing public posts when if
he honestly had a problem with me he would email me direct, agreed? I
will do this but if you are sick of seeing these posts by him, tell
him and banish him. This will be the last post I will put on this site
because it is turning into a circus.I'm sorry that everybody had to
see the remains of Wilmington Medical's past. Unfortunately some
people just can't grow up! I will post on the other sites as I have
been invited by several moderators that are professionals to contiue
to help those in need. Thank you, Steve

2008-03-27 01:57:42

Yes there are other that have had problems with Wilmington Medical but that's because of the people we had working for us! You were in the wearhouse but not by yourself, you had help so you didn't have to reach up onto the shelves, Terri helped you. Most of that stuff was near floor level anyway. You are right , you do have the right to work but you told me he was paying you under the table, so did you lie to me then or are you lying to me now? I do give respect to you for working. I don't know if you're working with Brad or not and I don't want to know. All I know is Brad, from what I have seen and heard, has no personal skills in dealing with the public. Remember I worked directly with him so I know. He was also let go from Wilmington Medical for causing problems among co-workers. I also have talked to several people that Brad talked to and they said they wanted nothing to do with him because of the way he talked to them. As for him kicking my ass, I have no fear of Brad
because all I ever heard was talk.We are accredited and not many are at this time, and yes Medicare is going to require everybody to be accredited by 2007. That just puts us ahead of the game. I still can't believe you are like this, what is it exactly that "I" did? Can you tell me that? You've been attacking Martin and the company but you never said anything that I did. Can you explain this?

2008-03-25 03:56:05

it looks like i am not the only one who has had
problems with Wilmington medical supply! yes, i was
put in the shipping department, which further supports
my dislike of martin. Think about it, what kind of
"upstanding business man" puts a paraplegic in a
warehouse, knowing that he cant reach most of the
shelves, and makes him pack supplies for over 200
customers. I'm talking catheters, k-y, under pads,
gloves, antiseptic wipes, bedside bags and diapers! He
knew i could not do the job by myself but he put me in
there anyway cause he needed an excuse to fire me
without looking like the bad guy. he set me up to
fail. as far as getting paid to work, just because I'm
disabled doesn't mean i don't have the right to make a
living. Even disabled people have a right to work and
earn money and STILL receive their SSI check. i was
working full time, but getting part time pay because
of the limits set by SSI. when i wanted to get off SSI
and make more than 4.50 an hour that was when martin
stuck me in the "Warehouse of Doom and Gloom". and as
far as brad goes, lets keep this between you, me and
martin. i would not bring brad into this, he has
nothing to do with it. besides, he would probably kick
your a$$ if he knew you were talking smack about him.
on a final note, i noticed you have mentioned, several
times, that Wilmington medical supply was accredited,
like it was something special. well its not. in order
to bill insurance companies, you MUST be accredited.
even medicare will REQUIRE that DME companies be
accredited by 2007 in order to get paid. so stop
tooting your own horn, its not that special.
P.S. sorry for the spelling, bite me Steve

Re: inquiring minds

2008-03-24 11:02:30

Geri, you're right. When we care about someone
and they are in a chair, we would like them NOT to be
in a chair. I think that's normal. If one of my
children had been born without an arm, for example, I
would want for them NOT to have been born that way. And
until I became involved with Phoebe, I wasn't really
comfortable around people in chairs because I didn't know
what was the right thing or the wrong thing to do, so
awkwardly, I'd sort of feel my way around when I would talk
to them, wondering if I was offending them or not.
You, and Phoebe, and all the people I meet in these
rooms have educated me so well, that I'm as comfortable
around crips now as I am around AB's. I can even use
that word without embarassment now. (Crips, I mean)
There is no way for me to put a value on the education
you all have given me. I only hope that I can repay
it someday by helping others learn what I have
learned.<br

inquiring minds

2008-03-24 08:41:08

Hi Ray,<br
just gets old. It seems people who care about you, or
like you, or think you are too young, or too pretty,
or too nice to be in a chair..are always wanting it
not to be so. so, since there is nothing they can do
to help, they feel that hoping is at least a way to
make them feel helpful. PLUS, it is hard to start up a
conversation with a stranger, especially one in a chair, so it
seems an appropriate topic. One might consider asking
things like "how accessible is this city, or this bldg.
etc..\ or even what that person thinks about all the
"cure talk".... anyway, just a thought. at least keep
onn talking, istead of looking at a w/c person like
they are retarded, or deaf, or whatever people
think....<br

Fw: Cure For Bee Sting

2008-03-23 23:37:04

Cure for Bee and Hornet Sting
A couple of weeks ago I was unfortunate enough to get stung by both a bee and hornet while working in the garden.
My arm swelled up, so off to the doctor I went. The clinic gave me cream and an antihistamine. The next day the swelling was getting progressively worse so off to my regular doctor I went.
Infected arm - needed an antibiotic. What was interesting is what the Dr. told me. The next time you get stung put a penny on the bite for 15 minutes. I thought, wow next time (if there ever is one) I will try it.
Well, that night my niece got stung by two bees. When she came over to swim I looked at the bite and it had already started to swell. So * off I went to get my money. Taped a penny to her arm for 15 minutes. The next morning, there was no sign of a bite. Wow were we surprised.
Well guess what happened again on Saturday night. I was helping my sister deadhead her flowers and guess what? You are right I got stung again two times by a hornet on my left hand. Was I ticked. I thought, here I go again having to go to the doctor for yet another antibiotic.
Well I promptly went into the house, again got my money out, and taped two pennies to my bites and then sat and sulked for 15 minutes. The penny took the string out of the bite immediately. I still wasn't sure what was going to happen. The next morning I could only see the spot where he had stung me. No redness, no swelling. Just wanted to share the marvelous information in case any of you are experiencing the same problem at home. We need to have a stock of pennies on hand at school and at home.
The Dr. said somehow the copper in the penny counteracts the bite. I would never had believed it. But it definitely does work.
So remember this little bit of wisdom and pass it on to your
friends, children, grandchildren-everyone.....

by far the cheapest price i have found on them, most
are in the 275 - 295 range.Does anyone here have the
Frog legs?Whats your opinion of them?.What size of
casters before and after?I'm running 6 inch casters now
and would hate to go any smaller,i feel the taller
ones are better suited for my uneven areas i go,like
gravel grass etc.I would love to be able to fit 8x2
casters under my Action A-4,but no way would they clear
my feet.So i'm stuck with the 5-6 inchers.<br

2008-03-20 07:44:08

Hi Nell,<br
research is just that. Research. I, myself have chosen not
to get my hopes up everytime I hear of some "new"
thing. It is all able bodied people say to me "did you
hear about X?" I would prefer to get on with my life,
not keep talking, and waiting for my condition to
change, AND I would prefer to discuss the WEATHER, than
just IF I am going to walk again (there is more to me
than that)<br
even CLOSE, I wlll be the first in line. Quite
frankly, I don't think they are even close, and don't
think they will have it resolved in my lifetime.<br
So, good luck to them, keep on working, and I'll keep
on living, working, gardening, refinishing
furniture, traveling, visiting friends, visiting the rehab ward, being a mom,
aunt, sister, and generally enjoying my life. <br
don't get any guarantees. I might not be here
tommorrow.<br
Olivia, welcome, and don't ever feel you are jumping in

about! Jump in!

Re: Vacations?

2008-03-19 10:49:05

ogeez, Ed and I have been on a cruise and enjoyed
the ship very much--access is usually good
everywhere. The worst part for us was the transfer to a
"tender" which they are just about always willing to do,
but is harrowing to say the least--some transfers are
less "exciting" than others. I also didn't care for
the transfers in and out of cabs--most of the carbs
were inaccessible to w/c's but the lower ones are not
if you're willing to do the transfers. At first I
didn't mind but I really don't want to do that again.
But it is definitely worth the hassle imo---on the
beauitful ship--the food, the sun, the food, the shows, the
food----loved it! I encourage you to go--maybe you will have
fewer troubles with transferring than we
did--enjoy!!...Betty :>) If you have any more questions just ask
here or e-mail me at Raillone@...

"No Matter What"

2008-03-18 09:33:18

Two longtime golfing buddies got to the course one
day and decided that today they would play the ball where it
lies, "No matter what!"
On the 14th hole, one of them sliced his ball and it
ended up on the cart path. As he reached down to pick up
his ball to get relief, his friend said, "Wait a minute! We
agreed that we would not improve our lies! Remember? No
matter what!"
The first player tried to explain that he was
entitled to this relief -- that it was in the rules of golf.
But the second fellow would not allow it. Finally, in
disgust, the man went to the cart and grabbed a club.
As he stood near his ball, he took a few practice
swings, each time scraping the club on the pavement and
sending out showers of sparks.
Finally, he took his shot. The club hit the cement
again, sparks went flying, but his ball shot straight
towards the green, landed and rolled to a stop -- two inches
from the cup.
"Great shot!" his friend exclaimed. "What club
did you use?"
The man answered with a wry smile, "Your 7-iron!"

Unintentionally deceiving...

I heard this morning that many with SCI injuries
called the network thinking that the commercial was
real, wanting to know how they could get more info and
do what CR did. Seeing the ad, especially if you
didn't catch the beginning, I can very well understand
how many may have been deceived. This should have
been better thought out by those involved making this
commercial...Betty

i know who steve is, he works for a medical supply
company in wilmington, nc. His boss is named martin
gallan. I know of them and there company because he
ripped off a wheelchair basketball team here in
wilmington, he promised them tha if they let him get
they're catheters, he would be their sponsor so they
can play basketball. so the team agreed and for
several months Wilmington MEdical supply was getting
their catheters. But when the time came to pay for the
entrance fees, teams jerseys, etc., martin backed out
and didnt pay. HE SCAMED A WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL
TEAM!!. i know this for a fact because i used to work
for that bastard. I am a t-2 para and he treated me
like shit too. i have been in this group for a while,
and have read many posts on many diffrent topics but
never replied to them. this time i had too. if you
need catheters, and are covered by medicare, ANY (dME)
MEDICAL SUPPLY COMPANY CAN GET THEM FOR YOU AT NO
COST. the only stipulation is that you must have
suffered from 2 uti's in a 12 month period. if you
need more info, email me, BUT DONT TRUST STEVE, OR

Hey. It's me again. I got an instant messenger
thing about 9:30 P.M. and was asked to go to the

when I got to the message 15 minutes later, I logged
in. But no one was there. Do you guys (and girls)
ever chat there? If not, why? Thanks, Olivia :O )

Re: The Commercial

Kathy, I saw the commercial the next day when
they were talking about it. I can see where some might
be uncomfortable with it--perhaps giving false hope
to those who will never be able to walk again--but I
imagine it is inevitable that what he dreams of may be
possible some day and if this commercial gives a boost to
fund raising then I presume that day may be sooner
than it otherwise would have been...Betty

Re: Autonomic Hyperreflexia/fluid intake

2008-03-15 04:15:28

Hi Bill, My incidents with hyperreflexia also
only occur at night. I believe the fluid pools in my
legs from being up. Because of the lack of efficient
circulation and once I lay down it processes through. I once
had a vision black out from it. When I could see and
felt some better my blood pressure was 190/125. The
nurses didn't know what it was either and wouldn't cath
me right away. They didn't understand why I wanted
them to take my blood pressure. The blood vessels in
your eyes can burst, causing blindness from the high
blood pressure too.<br
lot. It's a great help in detering bladder infections
and stones. However, a high level quad was told to
drink a gallon of water a day by his physician. As a
result, he washed too much of a certain chemical out of
his brain and suffered seizures. This rendered him
with memory loss and some brain damage. He died not
long after of another seizure. This may be a rare
occurrence, but it is frightening. Each person has their own
capacities, as we know. I'm not aware of the liklihood of
this happening to others. Just another tid-bit of
knowledge to pass on. In my experience, migrains are less
horrendous but neither are welcome to suffer from. Lezlie

Hello everybody! It's Steve again. This may seem like an advertisement
but it's not. I do work for a medical supply company and I help people
obtain their catheters. This is a system designed for people with
frequent UTI'S. It involves straight catheters or closed systems.
These are becoming more popular due to their portability. I work with
doctors nationwide as well as rehab hospitals. Please don't take this
personally. If you don't need these, just disregard this message. As I
have said before, I can get you free information and samples if you
are interested. Just email me at scourt@... or call 1-
800-593-5556 and ask for Steve in Urology. I don't ask for money or
anything like that, I go through the insurance companies. We do all
the paperwork also so it's less hassle for you. Just leave a mailing
address and the size catheter you use and I will send it out. For
those who contact me, thank you.
Steve

I've experienced Autonomic Hyperreflexia

2008-03-14 19:48:35

When I was in rehab, I got to where I was always
thirsty and drank water all the time. I would be alright
during the day but when I laid down at night I would get
the awful headaches, and my blood pressure at one
time got up to 220 or 230. Being a rehab for spinal
cord injuries I would have thought that they could
have figured out what was wrong. But it wasn't till a
checkup appointment that my doctor said I was drinking
way to much. He said that my output should be aroung
2000 cc's. I think I was double that and I was taking
more medication back then as well. Now I drink enough
to keep my output around that and have not had any
of those headaches since. I have a soft spot for
people who have migrains, it really hurts. Bill

DIRTY JOKF

2008-03-13 23:37:24

A knockout young lady decided she wanted to get rich quick so she proceeded to find herself a rich 73-year-old man, planning to love him to death on their wedding night.

The courtship and wedding went off without any problem, in spite of the half-century age difference. The first night of her honeymoon, she got undressed, and waited for him to come out of the bathroom to come to bed.

When he emerged, however, he had nothing on except a rubber to cover a twelve-inch erection, and was carrying a pair of earplugs and a pair of nose plugs. Fearing her plan had gone desperately amiss, she asked, "What are those for?"

The elderly gentleman replied, "There are two things I can't stand: the sound of a woman screaming, and the smell of burning rubber."

DIRTY JOKE..GOOD ONE

2008-03-13 21:07:53

Bob joins a very exclusive nudist colony. On his first day he takes off his clothes and starts wandering around. A gorgeous petite blonde walks by him and the man immediately gets an erection. The woman notices his erection, comes over to him grinning sweetly and says: "Sir, did you call for me?" Bob replies: "No, what do you mean?" She says: "You must be new here; let me explain. It's a rule here that if I give you an erection, it implies you called for me." Smiling, she then leads him to the side of a pool, lays down on a towel, eagerly pulls him to her and happily lets him have his way with her.

Bob continues exploring the facilities. He enters a sauna, sits down, and farts. Within a few seconds a huge, horribly corpulent, hairy man with a firm erection lumbers out of the steam towards him. The Huge Man says: "Sir, did you call for me?" Bob replies: "No, what do you mean?" The Huge Man: "You must be new here; it is a rule that when you fart, it implies you called for me." The huge man then easily spins Bob around, bends him over the bench and has his way with him.

Bob rushes back to the colony office. He is greeted by the smiling naked receptionist: "May I help you?" Bob says: "Here is your card and key back. You can keep the $500 joining fee." Receptionist: "But Sir, you've only been here a couple of hours; you only saw a small fraction of our facilities....."Bob replies: "Listen lady, I am 58 years old, I get a hard-on twice a month, but I fart 15 times a day. No thanks."

2008-03-12 02:10:42

I'm trying to write a novel (tho I doubt it will get published) about
CSIs, however, I can't really find the information I want.
In my story, a teenager is diagnosed with a complete SCI. She broke the
C-3, 4, and 5 vertabraes. Needless to say, she is told she will never
walk again. I think that even with a complete SCI, don't you have PT
(physical therapy)?
If so, what does the beggining of PT involve? Is it painful? I'd also
like to know more about the later stages.
Also, with a complete SCI, what kind of bed are you on (modernly)? I
have seen the movie of Joni Erikson, and I know the kind of bed she was
in... is it the same kind?
Anything else you could inform me of would be of great help.

The hitchhiker says thats a cool pet monkey you have there.

Trucker says yeah he's cool wanna see him do a trick??

The hitchhiker says "Sure."

So the trucker hits the monkey on the back of the head and the monkey starts giving the trucker a blow job. Anyway the trucker cums then asks the hitchhiker if hed like to give it a try.

The hitchhiker stops and thinks a moment then says "Sure, but you dont have to hit me on the head......."

I want to know how people feel about being
referred to as a dependent adult? Ok, wait for the
definition and understand that I am coming from the
perspective that those of us with physical conditions that
require assistance of a caretaker to meet "essential
human needs" results in dependency. <br
235.B "Dependent Adult" a person 18 years of age or
older who is unable to protect the person's own
interests or unable to adequately perform or obtain
services necessary to meet essential human needs, as a
result of a physical or mental condition which requires
assistance of another. <br

any of the following as a result of the willful or
negligent acts or omissions of a caretaker: physical
injury, or commission of a sexual offense, or
exploitation, or deprivation of the minimum food, shelter,
clothing, supervision, physical or mental health care or
other care necessaty to maintain a dependent adults

NINETEEN THINGS THAT IT TOOK ME 50 YEARS TO LEARN

2008-03-07 09:10:56

NINETEEN THINGS THAT IT TOOK ME 50 YEARS TO LEARN
1. Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.
2. If you had to identify, in one word, the reason why the human race has not achieved, and never will achieve, its full potential, that word would be "meetings."
3. There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."
4. People who want to share their religious views with you almost never want you to share yours with them.
5. And when God, who created the entire universe with all of its glories, decides to deliver a message to humanity, He WILL NOT use, as His messenger, a person on cable TV with a bad hairstyle.
6. You should not confuse your career with your life.
7. No matter what happens, somebody will find a way to take it too seriously.
8. When trouble arises and things look bad, there is always one individual who perceives a solution and is willing to take command. Very often, that individual is crazy.
9. Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance.
10. Never lick a steak knife.
11. Take out the fortune before you eat the cookie.
12. The most destructive force in the universe is gossip.
13. You will never find anybody who can give you a clear and compelling reason why we observe daylight savings time.
14. You should never say anything to a woman that even remotely suggests that you think she's pregnant unless you can see an actual baby emerging from her at that moment.
15. There comes a time when you should stop expecting other people to make a big deal about your birthday. That time is age eleven.
16. The one thing that unites all human beings, regardless of age, gender, religion, economic status or ethnic background, is that, deep down inside, we ALL believe that we are above average drivers.
17. The main accomplishment of almost all organized protests is to annoy people who are not in them.
18. A person who is nice to you, but rude to the waiter, is not a nice person. (This is very important. Pay attention. It never fails.)
19. Your friends love you anyway.

jokes/wheelchair sports

2008-03-06 01:21:06

Nicely put...and my sentiments exactly!!! I will sit back and say nothing and monitor the group for a week or two and if it turns into a joke fest (because others are beginning to send jokes now) then it's not worth staying in for me. However...I did learn how to have all my emails from this group be transferred into one folder which is nice because there's not a lot of clutter and sifting through emails. Now I need to do it with my sexuality group.

Regarding wheelchair sports...give football a try, it's a blast...it's played in a parking lot and full contact. It is touch football but the rule is you have to have two hands on the person's upper body to get them down. So if you only have one hand on their upper body and the person rolls past you then the person is still live and if your strapped in like I was your going over for sure and you stay there on the ground until the play ends (LOL). There is even a Blister Bowl each year...I believe that's what it's called...like a super bowl but for wheelchair users who like to play football. Tennis is also fun...I did that for about 6 years competitively before the funding for the Dallas Wheelchair Tennis Club was axed. Now I do water skiing in the summer which is a blast also. Basketball in this area is way too competitive. And if you're a quad then Quad Rugby is the way to go...full contact and for quads only. I can't play with a team because I'm a para...I can
practice with them though.

Shawn

climbs up over the observation deck's barrier and jumps off. The first man
falls to his seemingly death... but about half way down he stops and
floats back up and land on the observation deck. "That was amazing..." the
second man gasps... "how did you do that?" "Well..." the first man
replies... "when the winds are just right you can jump off and the wind
will blow you back up. Want to give it a try?" "Sure..." the second man
replies. And climbs up over the barrier and jumps... Falling all the way
down and smashing to his death on the sidewalk below... "Man..." a
security guard that has been standing in the background watching groans to
the first man... "some days Superman you really show your mean side":)

here<br
problems with getting the urine from the cathader to the
toliet. your using pop bottles ect. ect. ect.<br
health care provider sells extention tubes that press

Re: bladder blues - part deux

2008-03-04 03:33:07

HI, <br
cathing would be to attach the catheter to a leg bag. The
heaviness and having to hold a pop bottle are not factors
if you instead use the leg bag. Then you can empty
the bag out in the toilet. Get the bags that have the
release clamp at the bottom. It would be reusable all day
and really only need to be cleaned when you return
home. Get the large size if your bladder holds a lot.
That way you don't have to worry about over flowing
anything either. Just an idea and suggestion, if you
hadn't thought of it by now. Anyone doing intermittent
cathing and having difficulty getting close enough to a
toilet can use this more efficiently, I believe. Hope it
helps. P.S. I can't figure out where to go to join. Mom
(Dorla) told me on the phone but I'm not a very
experienced computer sleuth. Sorry! I hope I'm not improperly
infringing on your club. I will get joined, I hope. I'm a
mess whe it comes to working computers Thanks- Lezlie

Hi Betty, <br
you know I understand everyone's own personal choices
that make a difference in their lives. It's nice to be
able to have the freedom from having scheduled
catheterizations. Of course you also don't have to worry if someone
doesn't show up in time resulting incontinence. Being
able to drink all you want and as you wish is a great
benefit to your health as well as pleasure for comfort of
satisfying your thirst. I can't drink all I may desire and
necessarily keep my scheduled cath time. Living alone with no
one available if the need arises keeps me on a strict
fluid intake. I have sensation and know when my bladder
is full. I do benefit in having that ability. Some
day I may have to resort to the foley if caretakers
are not found to provide intermittent cathing. The
pain and irritation of the foley and other health
consequences would be factors I'd have to accept and learn to
tolerate. People have used the foley method for years.
There are pros and cons to both. The best to you and
all in dealing with life's necessities. Lezlie

Re: GARDENING/Lezlie

Hi Nell,<br
a regular tilled area and the other is raised beds.
If you have someone to build you a wheelchair seat
height bed that works great. The beds Iowa City
provides, free, are about 6' by 4'. The wood at the top is
layed flat like a picnic bench so there is a place for
me to sit my water jugs, tools, etc. It is just
right for me to be able to reach to the center from
both sides. I plant radishes, spinach, peppers, leaf
lettuce, salad size tomatoes, cucumbers, green beans and
peas. As for my big garden, I plant zuchini, bell
peppers, cucumbers- growing up a fence, and 6 other types
of tomatoes. Last year, it was corn, tomatoes,
zuchini, banana and bell peppers, zuchini, onions, and
radishes. <br
of the garden to your advantage. By planting close
to the edge and having solid ground for my chair to
be on. Even when it's rained you can get to your
plants and to minimize the mud on your tires. Since one
side of of my garden is bordered by another, I don't
have grass and solid ground to go on all the way
around. I make do by having help putting the fabric
carpet down. It allows me to be out in the garden with
the least amount of dirt picking up on the tires. It
also helps the ground solidify after being tilled.
Other gardeners walk on it as a path to theirs. This
helps in packing the dirt down. Very necessary to keep
from sinking in and getting stuck. Another big benefit
is that it keeps the weeds from growing where it's
down too! If you have control of how your garden is
set-up I suggest to have just strips of garden ground to
plant in, giving you solid ground in between rows.
You'll have less likelyhood of getting stuck or getting
dirty tires. As I'm sure you understand tracking dirt
in the house is not wanted. Another suggestion for a
raised bed is an old bathtub. Mom uses this as a
strawberry bed. She doesn't have to be bending over so far
tending her plants and picking either.<br
the ones they call Real Kids Tools. They are the
perfect length to work from my chair with. Hoe and rake.
I also use one of those miniature shovels. For the
raised bed they have the small hand size tools that work
if you don't want your hands digging in the
dirt.<br
everyone. But I do hoe quite a bit to loosen the dirt for
planting. The biggest tip I can give any gardener is to put
out Preen-n-Green or a likewise product. It's a
mixture of fertilizer, and weed preventing substances.
Works great! Saving your arms a huge amount of weed
hoeing. Hope this is advantageous in your gardening
endeavors. Thanks for the offer of info for self-cathing
too. Lezlie

SCI Group,
As soon as I got into my accident I was detemined to walk again and
start training. And in doing so I really built up pretty big, not to
where I used to but enough to compete. I found this site 6 months
ago and signed myself up for the weightlifting compitions,
basketball, track/field, and the World wheelchair Games in Rio de
Janerio. I was wondering if anyone else is young enough, strong
enough, and has the will to win. Also what is the level of your
injury? They have Quad and Para Olympics....that is my main

I have found a web site for that hotel chain.
Kind of neat and you can take a virtual tour of the
rooms. Also tells you where all the hotels are. Really
neat. The address
is<br
too sure about
the room in front of the desk but otherwise looks
great. Will try it next time we travel if there is one
in the area. Thanks Betty :)<br

Motels...

Karen was asking me about a chain of motels that
is very w/c friendly--my fuzzy brain had
forgotten--but it was Microtel if you're ever traveling and want
a roll-in shower at a very reasonalbe price. Keep
Microtel in mind--honestly they're not paying me or
anything!..Betty:>)
