I am trying to find out if anyone knows of any resources that would pay
or help pay for a stair, chair lift I have been C5 C6 since 2002 and
have been looking ever since

phrase, well maybe I coined it, I don't know--called the
"accumulative effect" where after so many repeats of the same
thing that bothers us we eventually errupt--it's
inevitable. I think I told you the Michael Feldman
story?--where I was talked over under around and through at the
Michael Feldman radio show last Saturday (public radio 11
am EST)--everywhere but to me, and I snapped. And I
know taking that "sueing" step is not as easy as it
may seem or for others to urge--but whatever you do
we're behind you--it's incredible to me that they
wouldn't change the location for you, seems the most
practical, ethical, and logical not to mention moral thing
to do-- I don't get it--I know neither do you...All

THAT much, but is it OK if I cry on your shoulders a
little? I got injured on the job in 1983, right? OK.
Well, the company that I worked for and just retired
from last year has a Christmas party every year. It
consists of a meal in an upscale(?) restaurant, and a few
drinks. This company, a public utility, has chosen to
hold this Christmas party in a non-accessible location
EVERY year, except one. This year is no exception. I
have talked to the management about this every year
since I became injured. The first couple years Id go
anyway, and climb the stairs (a full flight), while Linda
hauled my wheelchair up and back down after the party.
Later. I explained that I felt I was betraying the
disabled community by climbing those stairs, because not
every person with a disability would be capable of
accessing that second floor. I also got older, and it got
all but impossible for me to climb those stairs. Not
only that, but it got more difficult for Linda to haul
that damn chair up and down. I pleaded, cajoled,
threatened, screamed and begged for them to have the
Christmas party downstairs, at an accessible location, all
to no avail. I know, I know, I could sue their asses
off, and dont think I havent thought about it, but
is that what its going to take? I feel hurt, angry,
frustrated that the people I worked with, that should care,
that should understand, DONT. Even the people that I
was the closest to dont take a stand on my behalf. I
feel betrayed by the company and the people that I
worked for almost 20 years. The company that gave me my
livelihood, but also the company that was responsible for
rendering me a paraplegic. Im terribly saddened by this. I
get depressed every year at this time because I know
that Ill be invited to the Christmas party that I
wont be able to attend. Well, thanks for allowing me
to vent. I know its a small thing, but right now it
seems like a huge thing that is trying to tear my heart
out of my chest .<br

Hi, everyone. As you may know, I am new here. I
am NOT an sci but became involved recently with a
woman who is. Because of her, I'm trying to get
involved and learn what I can of life in a chair. I just
finished reading the latest set of messages dealing mostly
with equipment needs, vendors and reimbursement. I
find it so exasperating to see what you all have to go
thru in dealing with our gov't services. Surely, with
documentation, something should be able to be done to get this
system changed. I would like to be able to do something
or be part of a group that does something about
this, but I don't really know where to start. So I
guess I'll just jump in and start making some calls.
Here in Denver we have a great consumer advocate that
might have some ideas..I'll write him and see what I
can learn. You'd think with people all over the
country (world, even) fighting the same nonsense, that we
could get something done! Thanks to all of you for the
info...now I have something to work on between 4 and 5
a.m.!! I wondered what I was going to do with that extra
time. :o))

$200 or more to tighten a screw, it really is all but
stealing...<br

private medical coverage from my fathers work. but if you
look at the prices that they charge for things like
gloves, caths, k/y jelly, various other supplies. it
really makes a person mad that these supply companies
can get away with it. and like you said if a regular
pharamacy would accept inchurance (government allowing) all
our rates would drop so dramatically. <br
funny a bunch of cripples like ourselves can make it
seem so simple when those dorks we have in office cant
get the picture. mabye if they look at it from the
bottom of the system where we deal with it. and not at
the top they would be able to pull there heads out of
there beuriocratic asses and see the real
world.<br

Thanks to those of you who responded. However, there was a couple of you who thought I actually was given the choice. FAT CHANCE! I was pondering the choice while suffering a flame-throwing UTI a couple days ago. I haven't had one for quite some time as the daily Cranactin pill proves quite effective. I screwed up having too much sodapop that day.

My figuring is if I could walk with full abilities again, at least I could run to the b-room to thwart off the leaking. Nuff said.

carrie, congrats!..w/my nerve pain, i could never handle pregnancy. everybody is different. thankfully i have a daughter! i (c-6) have litterally spent hundreds upon hundreds on accupuncture and chinese herbs, but to no avail.but like i said, everyone is different. hell. try it, consult w/ dr first. good luck

Congratulations on your news!!! How far gone are you now? The only thing I can suggest to help with the nerve pain is something like accupuncture? I've never tried it personally, but I have heard it can be really usefull!

I know what you mean about the cost being higher,
except mine is with the insurance co., instead of
medicare. The Dr. wants me to get a stand aid and the place
that the insurance co. wants me to get it from has the
price triple, and I pay 20% of that. If I could go thru
the vendor myself, it would save alot of money on my
part. But what do you do.<br

Has anyone bought a wheelchair through medicare
latley ? I have been working with my latest vendor for 4
months ! I went through 2 previous vendors first trying
to buy it on my own. There co payment was two
high.<br
therapist, and me . We ended up with the same chair and same
options I was trying to get with the other 2 vendors.
However now , Medicare is paying the doctor, the P.T.,
and 80% of the cost. <br
match will cost over $3500, for a light weight manual
chair. <br

this upsets me so much is the taxes I pay ! When will
we see a system that workes ( in a cost effective
way ) ! Its not in this years budget for the country.

Congratulations on your news!!! How far gone are you now? The only thing I can suggest to help with the nerve pain is something like accupuncture? I've never tried it personally, but I have heard it can be really usefull!

Hi everyone! yes, I too missed Friday night,
sorry. As for the spokes, I usually use it as an excuse
to run by the dealer....check out new products while
they fix mine...but I am sure the just use a regular
spoke wrench. But when in doubt, call them. It helps
that the wheelchair rep here is really good lookin'
and fun to talk to.<br

Thanks for all the good advice. I got to thinking
and it looked like they were just spokes like a bike.
So I took a chance and bought a bike repair kit. And
it worked. The spoke tightener works just fine.
Afraid my rep is a bit to far away. But I do have a
medical supply place here that I could have gone to.
Guess the old brain just wasn't thinking....again. Oh
well, problem solved.<br

Well, here it is 12:09am. The bird is put away,
the trimmings are in their containers, the kitchen is
clean...ok so there is a pan or two still waiting. But I am
done!!! The last person has finally left. What a day. But
have to say it has been one of the best Thanksgivings
ever. The whole family was here and the kids were the
best. No fighting, think they gave them all a valium,
only thing that explains it...LOL Chuck had fun, took
a two hour nap in the middle of things but what the
heck. Even got to talk with my mom in Indiana with our
web cam. The newest grand baby was here so she got to
see her. It was just great. <br
that I am glad it is over. I AM BEAT!!! Cooking all
day and then looking at that mess. No matter how hard
I try can never stay on top of it. But now the dish
washer is washing, the firdge is cooling everything,
chuck is playing with his computer and the house is
QUIET!<br
around my house and saw all the love from the family and
was very thankful. I have truely been blessed. And
then I come here and see all the wonderful people here
and the great wishes and messages and feel even more
blessed. Sorry guess this time of year makes me a bit
mushy.<br

Hi Donna,MC Mobility is where i went also,Seem to
be a good place to me,long drive though,think it was
over 200 miles.They put my Freedom lift on for
me,there are pictures of it here under my new lift.They
did a nice job,no complaints from me.<br
look forward to winter either,and i get a 1/4 the snow
you get,maybe not even that much,with you right on
the lake.<br

Nice to meet you too, thanks for sharing the info
about your Mom. I got polio in 1954 at the age of 16
months and also spent quite some time in an Iron Lung.
Not much memory of that time, but have seen the
photographs from those days. I also had to be in one again at
age 7 when I had pneumonia, and I do remember that
time, pretty scary machine for a child. Very fortunate
as I grew up, never had to use one again so far.

also hope we all meet next summer, it will be awesome

I've been in a wheelchair for 30 years, T-10 complete, and I have a
very slight scoliosis that developed just a couple of years ago. My
doctor prescribed a dual chamber Roho cushion which helps me sit
straight.
Seeing as how it took me 25 years to develop just a slight
scoliosis, it doesn't seem logical that you're starting to get it so
soon after your injury. I agree that you need another doctor's
opinion.

fewist ingredients. Pillsbury Chocolate Chunk Cookies

hard as a brick...Going to Wisconsin tomorrow and
taking this stuff with me and if they don't like it they
can just dunk their cookies--that's what the good

Hi. I was just wondering if there are any other women out there who have had to deal with nerve pain while being pregnant. My accident was a year ago and now I'm pregnant. It was a surprise. I had to get off my neurontin and all my other drugs. Getting off all the other ones were easy. The nerve pain is terrible though and I haven't been able to find any alternative remedies. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. [INLINE]

So there is a fish in a pond looking at a fly and he says to himself "If that fly drops just 6 more inches I'll be able to jump up-get it and have a meal"....
Meanwhile there is a bear who is waching the fish who thinks to himself "Hey, if that fly drops just 6 inches the fish will jump and when the fish jumps, I'll grab the fish and have myself a meal".....
Then there was a cat sitting in a nearby tree watching all of this who said to himself "Well hey, if that fly drops 6 inches, the fish will jump and the bear will move to get the fish--all I have to do it pounce on the bear, distract him and take the fish and I'll have myself a meal"....
And sure enough everything goes according to plan--the fly drops 6 inches, the fish jumps to get the fly, the bear jumps to get the fish and the cat is ready to pounce on the bear...
But the cat misses and lands in the pond where the fish once was....
And the moral of this story is???

three pills I was hoarding. Go to see the Dr. tomorrow
and hoping for a new prescription. We are having
lovely weather..More like September than November. It is
supposed to rain tomorrow and would like to see snow on
Thanksgiving.. Yes I know I must be nuts but we always went
hunting on Thanksgiving and muddy fields just aren't our
cup of tea for hunting. However we gave that up a few

Went to chat tonight and found nobody. They gave
me the perkasetts and I was trying not to use them.
They make you constipated they said (and I think they
did) and that was no fun ended up with a laxative and
that was worse fun. I'm sure when I am all better I'll
look back and laugh at all this I'm going through.
Some of it if you look on the funny side of it -- it
is hillarious. Tylonal is keeping it bearable. I
