Group is growing strong with over 640 members...
NAIROBI (AFP) - A baby hippopotamus that survived the tsunami waves on the Kenyan coast has formed a strong bond with a giant male century-old tortoise, in an animal facility in the port city of Mombassa, officials said.
The hippopotamus, nicknamed Owen and weighing about 300 kilograms (650 pounds), was swept down Sabaki River into the Indian Ocean, then forced back to shore when tsunami waves struck the Kenyan coast on December 26, before wildlife rangers rescued him.
"It is incredible. A-less-than-a-year-old hippo has adopted a male tortoise, about a century old, and the tortoise seems to be very happy with being a 'mother'," ecologist Paula Kahumbu, who is in charge of Lafarge Park, told AFP.
"After it was swept and lost its mother, the hippo was traumatized. It had to look for something to be a surrogate mother. Fortunately, it landed on the tortoise and established a strong bond. They swim, eat and sleep together," the ecologist added.
"The hippo follows the tortoise exactly the way it follows its mother. If somebody approaches the tortoise, the hippo becomes aggressive, as if protecting its biological mother," Kahumbu added.
"The hippo is a young baby, he was left at a very tender age and by nature, hippos are social animals that like to stay with their mothers for four years," he explained.

Hello to all subscribers,
The University of Nevada, Reno is conducting a study sponsored by CDC
to examine social support in adults with paralysis. People with
paralysis report lower levels of support compared to the general
population. For this study, we are interested in exploring factors
that might explain this difference and how we can improve support.
In order to do this we need to hear from you! Participation in the
study is completely voluntary and all information is strictly
confidential. If you are interested, please visit our website at
www.supportandparalysis.org or call us toll-free at 1-866-317-8431.

Spina Bifida
WHAT IS IT?
Spina bifida (also called meningocele or myelomeningocele) is a defect that comes from a problem in the very early development of the unborn child. It happens when some of the back bones (vertebrae) do not close over the center tube of nerves (spinal cord). As a result, a soft unprotected area is left, which may bulge through the skin as a dark bag. This 'bag of nerves' is covered by a very thin layer (membrane) which may leak liquid from the spinal cord and brain. Nobody knows what causes it. But 1 of every 250 to 500 babies is born with spina bifida.

Hello to all. It has been a while since I posted. I came across the
following info and thought some of you may be interested in it. There
is a non profit org that is offering to pay you $20.00 to take their
survey. I copied this off the web site where I saw it....
Eligible subjects will receive $20.00 for their time and effort.
Seeking individuals who use wheelchairs or scooters as their primary
means of mobility to participate in a research study conducted by
researchers at the University of Pittsburgh.
This study is designed to investigate different aspects of
transportation use and the risk and nature of injuries to wheelchair
users involved in motor vehicle accidents. However, it is not
necessary to have been involved in an accident to participate.
I did not take the survey so if anyone did or plans to, please let
the group know about it. I copied the info from... http://upwd.net at

GREAT WAY TO MAKE MONEY-READ THIS!!!!!!

130.85.97.152 writes:
HOW TO TURN $6 INTO $6,000!!!!!!
READING THIS COULD CHANGE YOUR LIFE!
I found this on a bulletin board and decided to try it. A
little
while back, I was browsing through newsgroups, just like you
are now,
and came across an article similar to this that said you could
make
thousands of dollars within weeks with only an initial
investment of
$6.00! So I thought, Yeah right, this must be a scam, but
like most of us, I was curious, so I kept reading. Anyway, it
said
that you send $1.00 to each of the 6 names and address stated
in the
article. You then place your own name and address in the
bottom of
the list at #6, and post the article in at least 200
newsgroups.
(There are thousands) No catch, that was it. So after thinking
it
over, and talking to a few people first, I thought about
trying it. I
figured: what have I got to lose except 6 stamps and $6.00,
right? Then I invested the measly $6.00. Well GUESS WHAT!!...
within 7 days, I started getting money in the mail! I was
shocked! I
figured it would end soon, but the money just kept coming in.
In my
first week, I made about $25.00. By the end of the second week
I had
made a total of over $1,000.00! In the third week I had over
$10,000.00 and it's still growing. This is now my fourth week
and I
have made a total of just over $42,000.00 and it's still
coming in
rapidly. It's certainly worth $6.00, and 6 stamps, I have
spent more
than that on the lottery!! Let me tell you how this works and
most
importantly, why it works....Also, make sure you print a copy
of this
article NOW, so you can get the information off of it as you
need it.
I promise you that if you follow the directions exactly, that
you
will start making more money than you thought possible by doing
something so easy!
Suggestion: Read this entire message carefully! (print it out
or
download it.) Follow the simple directions and watch the money
come in!
It's easy. It's legal. And, your investment is only $6.00
(Plus postage)
IMPORTANT: This is not a rip-off; it is not indecent; it is not
illegal; and it is virtually no risk - it really works!!!!
If all of the following instructions are adhered to, you will
receive
extraordinary dividends.
PLEASE NOTE:
Please follow these directions EXACTLY, and $50,000 or more
can be
yours in 20 to 60 days. This program remains successful
because of
the honesty and integrity of the participants. Please continue
its
success by carefully adhering to the instructions.
You will now become part of the Mail Order business. In this
business
your product is not solid and tangible, it's a service. You
are in
the business of developing Mailing Lists. Many large
corporations are
happy to pay big bucks for quality lists. However, the money
made
from the mailing lists is secondary to the income which is
made from
people like you and me asking to be included in that list.
Here are the 4 easy steps to success:
STEP 1: Get 6 separate pieces of paper and write the following
on
each piece of paper;PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR MAILING LIST. Now
get 6 US $1.00 bills and place ONE inside EACH of the 6 pieces
of
paper so the bill will not be seen through the envelope (to
prevent
thievery). Next, place one paper in each of the 6 envelopes
and seal
them. You should now have 6 sealed envelopes, each with a
piece of
paper stating the above phrase, your name and address, and a
$1.00
bill. What you are doing is creating a service. THIS IS
ABSOLUTELY
LEGAL! You are requesting a legitimate service and you are
paying for
it! Like most of us I was a little skeptical and a little
worried
about the legal aspects of it all. So I checked it out with
the U.S.
Post Office (1-800-725-2161) and they confirmed that it is
indeed
legal! Mail the 6 envelopes to the following addresses:
#1) KEVIN LEE
8377 APT. I MONTGOMERY RUN RD.
ELLICOTT CITY MD 21043
#2) Stephanie Hicks
1283 Evening Canyon
Henderson NV 89014
#3) Matt Madracki
P.O. Box 1529
Sutton West, Ontario
L0E 1R0
#4) Martin Fredrickson
67 Hull Road
Mt Maunganui 3002
New Zealand
#5) J. Batty
9 Collingwood Street
Tauranga 3001
New Zealand
#6) James Vanazia
1858 Shenango Rd
Wampum Pa 16157
STEP 2: Now take the #1 name off the list that you see above,
move
the other names up (6 becomes 5, 5 becomes 4, etc...) and add
YOUR
Name as number 6 on the list.
STEP 3: Change anything you need to, but try to keep this
article as
close to original as possible. Now, post your amended article
to at
least 200 newsgroups. (I think there are close to 24,000
groups) All
you need is 200, but remember, the more you post, the more
money you make!
This is perfectly legal! If you have any doubts, refer to
Title 18
Sec. 1302 & 1341 of the Postal lottery laws.
Keep a copy of these steps for yourself and, whenever you need
money,
you can use it again, and again.
PLEASE REMEMBER that this program remains successful because
of the
honesty and integrity of the participants and by their
carefully
adhering to the directions. Look at it this way. If you are of
integrity, the program will continue and the money that so many
others have received will come your way.
NOTE: You may want to retain every name and address sent to
you,
either on a computer or hard copy and keep the notes people
send you.
This VERIFIES that you are truly providing a service. (Also,
it might
be a good idea to wrap the $1 bill in dark paper to reduce the
risk of mail theft.)
So, as each post is downloaded and the directions carefully
followed,
six members will be reimbursed for their participation as a
List
Developer with one dollar each. Your name will move up the list
geometrically so that when your name reaches the #1 position
you will
be receiving thousands of dollars in CASH!!! What an
opportunity for
only $6.00 ($1.00 for each of the first six people listed
above) Send
it now, add your own name to the list and you're in business!

see you live in southern Ohio. We live in
Northern KY about 45-50 miles from Cincinnati. About
Dave's UTI. He has them CONSTANTLY. They never go away.
As soon as he gets done with an antibiotic another
one comes. He is also very clean with catheters and
now uses a new one each time too. Nothing helps. He's
tried everything. He's only been in the hospital with
them twice. He just got out Sunday and now he's
leaking urine and feeling bad already. We don't know what
to do. It could get dangerous, the germs are already
resistant to many antibiotics and he's allergic to 3
antibiotics. Keep us in mind if you ever come down south. We'd
love to meet you.<br

Hi Joe,
Welcome to the Quad-List. I love your idea of an information booth at the Popcorn Festival. Getting the public awareness raised concerning the abilities that someone in a chair has to offer is very important.
I just had someone last week ask me if I preferred to be called "handicapped" or "disabled." I told him that if anyone thought that I was ''disabled'' because I was in a chair, they were ''handicapped'' in their thinking. Being able to learn how to succeed in life while in a chair ''enabled'' me to discover insights that anyone ''handicapped'' by their thinking would never understand. He looked at me awhile before he even started to understand what I meant, but there is hope for him, he is beginning to understand! :-)
Unfortunately, I have other plans for the 20th, and I'm living in Texas, but I wish you success with all you're able to do, now, and in the future.
With Love,

Hello all-
This is my first post. I am trying to raise awareness concerning spinal cord injuries. I am organizing an information booth at the Valpariso, Indiana Popcorn Festival(http://www.popcornfest.org/popcorn.html), on September 10, 2005. At this booth I would like to inform the public about; injury prevention, injury levels/function, complete vs incomplete, the daily life of a spinal cord injured person, current programs, therapies, research, and legislation effecting the quality of life and the prospect of a cure for paralysis, and everything in between.
This seems like the next natural step in my life. My neck was broken when I was thrown from a mechanical bull, at the 2003 Porter County fair. I sustained a C6/C7 incomplete spinal cord injury, leaving me with paralysis from the armpits down. I have since started a spinal cord injury support group and gone to Washington DC to rally for the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Act.
Along with the booth, I am still hoping to have a float in the parade. Unfortunately, out of the fifteen or so SCIs that I have met in my area, only five are willing to do the parade route with me. My idea is to show how many SCIs there are in the region and pull them to the information both. This doesn't play well when you only have five people rolling down the road. Would you be interested?... or interested in coming to the support group meetings? We meet on the first Friday of every month at 1pm, in Valparaiso, at Porter Hospital's Education and Rehabilitation Center, 1401 Calumet Ave. If you are interested in any of this I can be reached at heyjoewhite@...

questions were about cleaning catheters? Best way I have
heard, wash in soapy water with a little bleach, then
lay between dry towels, until reuse. Putting in
plastic makes a perfect enviroment for bacteria to
multiply. I would try to keep as few as possible in your
"wash and reuse" cycle, so they are not sitting around
too long being damp. If you carry them with you in a
plastic bag, wrap them in a paper towel to absorb the
excess moisture. As far as cathing questions, we are all
doing different types and methods. I personally, am in
sales, and travel all over the city during the day, and
out of town occasionally. The onyl workable thing for
me is a foley (in dwelling)like some of us had in
the hospital when we were first injured. I keep a
plug in the end of it (no bag) and then drain it
occasionally into a container (pop bottle) this also allows me
to drink all I want. I can easily empty in anywhere,
the car, wherever I have privacy. This is especially
good, as many bathrooms are not accessible. At night I
remove it, straight cath overnight, then use a new one
each morning. The risks from them are mainly,
increased infection (I had so many even before that I take
preventative anti-biotics anyway) and the risk of bladder
cancer may be elevated. This is caused by always having
the foreign object (balloon) in the bladder. I figure
by giving the bladder a rest overnight I am reducing
that risk. <br
questions..jump in...<br
Greetings to all fellow members of the spinal community.
I am after a bit of advice from those older and wiser than myself.
I am a T6 complete paraplegic, with a reflex bladder (high residual
so I am also performing morning and evening catheters). Because of
high bladder pressures my specialist has been monitoring my bladder
using video cystometry (forgive the spelling). After my last video,
my specialist said that the pressures were too high and I really need
to do something about them within the next six months. He gave me two
options.
1 Sphincterotomy.
2 Brindley implant.
I would really like to hear from those who have had either of these
procedures carried out.
I guess that option 1 is relative straght forward. I have heard that
the sphincter often heals and the sphincterotomy needs to be repeated
(sometimes up to 6 times). Although leakage can be a problem, this is
probably not serious as I am wearing a urodome most of the time any.
Option 2 has some distinct advantages, but I have some questions.
How big and cumbersome is the device (both the internal and external
device). I am reasonably slim and reasonably active and I am
concerned about the internal device interferring with my lifestyle.
How long do they last? What is the success/failure rate? How
effective are they with bowel function? How effective are they with
sexual function (my specialist tells me that they are often
ineffective in this area)?
I need as much information that I can get in order to make the
correct decision as both of the options are irreversable.
Please post here or e-mail me at pierred@....
thanks for your help.........

and my chair into the living room I could do it.
Regardless, I usually keep my portable phone under my chair
(hammock type thing, is great) much more convenient for me
to answer anyway, and then I have it in case of
emergency. <br
me back in the chair. I lay on my back on the floor,
grasp my knees and hold them up as close to my chin as
possible, she takes the chair, laid down backwards, and
using the seatback like a front end loader, loads my
back end on it. Now I am on the ground, kind of in my
chair, like I just fell straight back. She gets in front of
me, braces her foot on a bar on the bottom of my
chair and then reaches over and pulls it upright by
grabbing on the front of the w/c(by my knees) I just do my
best to lean way forward. It is tricky, but we have
done it. Always remember if you do fall, if you are on
hot pavement, to get your cushion under your butt. I
met a guy who was burned badly, and the helling time
was lengthy, and guess what he couldn't do? SIT IN
HIS CHAIR FOR THREE MONTHS! YUCK! and we thought we
didn't like these darn things, just think what we would
do without them. Spend lots of time in bed.<br
I still like my pump. I guess I am developing a
tolerance to the baclofen, so we have to increase it
occasionally. Recently I put it off, and spasms were getting so
bad agin that is was real tough to get in and out of
the truck. So I had another increase. I was given
Neurontin for the tingling and burning (didn't help) but I
found out, by accident) that it gives me quite a bit of
spasm inhibition. So now I use it in conjunction with
the pump. I have no side effects at all (nothing
noticable, anyway) Might be an option for anyone
else.<br
This weeken I painted all four kitchen chairs (wooden,
used oil based enamel) and I recovered the seats. They
look soooo good, anyway, I just had to tell
somebody!<br

That was a great story.
ou might want to try your local rehabilitation
facility. That is the kind of thing that they show you how
to do there. Just one word of warning though.
Michael and a few of his other diabled friends tell me it
doesn't matter what they say and show you, once they are
out of the chair the only way that they are getting
back in is to call 911. We found this out the hard way
last year on Memorial day. Michael fell during a
transfer and even though rehab showed him etc, there was
no way we could get him back in his chair. I called
911 and two fireman put him back in. Hope this
helps.<br
i Lisa,I was injured 7/20/97,I feel i learn
something new each day.I have bad pain and spasms also. For
the pain i take 1 Ultrum,2-4 Advils a day.Also have
to take Ditropan and Valium for spastic bladder.I
have tried several meds for the spasms ,but none
worked,my only option tht i know is the Baclofen pump,Geri
loves hers,as do several other people.I think Geri has
some info posted here on the pump.I have been driving
since 3 weeks after my accident, was no big deal for me
learning the handcontrols, probably because i farm and
tractor are handcontrolle except for the Clutch and
Brakes,we made levers to work them.My biggest challenge on
driving was finding a vehicle big enough to put chair
in.I have a S-10 ext cab,with the 3rd door,it's on the
drivers side, makes for a wide opening to transfer.Well
hope this helps, feel free to ask for more help,Randy

Hi,
My name is Sarah and I'm 19. I broke my back last year resulting in

i Karen, nice to meet you also.I find it hard to
get back into chair hard myself,i have fell out twice
now. They showed me how in rehab, but there was always some
one to hold the back of the chair down.so almost
impossiable at home by yourself.Well i say impossable,i'm
still a newbie.Yhru showed me to get back on my hands
and knees and walk yoursef back into the seat, well
the chair trys to flip back over on you,is what
happens to me.Lucky there was someone around to help me
and hold the chair, plus maybe help position me.As for
videos,i know of none, but would say ome rehab center
somewhre has one.My opinion a picture says a 1000
words, and believe there should be more videos avaiable for
a variety of things, this way we can watch and
practice at our own pace and privacy, just my

looks like I wasn't missed. Alot of new posts to read
and I am finally caught up. Now for the help
part...<br
video, or if any even exist, on how to get back into
your chair if you fall. Chuck took a spill today in
the van. I think he forgot to put the brakes on his
chair. He won't make that mistake again. He is ok,
nothing broke, but is sore as he**. Me too for that
matter. He is not a light man. Plus being in the van, I
could not get in a position to use my legs instead of
my back. The PT people kept disagreeing on how to do
it so he never was taught. Tough way to find out how
to go about it. Needless to say it really set him
back emotionally. Was a tough day. Sorry don't mean to
run on. But kind of helps to get it out. <br
you don't know of a video maybe you have some tricks
that you know that would help. I really would
appreciate any input.<br
site. The New mobility page. But I think I like our

into too much off the wall stuff. Not exactly what I
mean. It is fun to read their stuff but missed everyone
here. So whether you like it or not...I"M

helping.<br
orry it took so long for me to say that. I have
been busy and forgot to check in. My husband is a T-12
complete. So, like you, we have tons of questions. Everyone
here is very nice and helps alot. Without them I would
have been lost. We are new to this too. He had his
accident in November of 97. As for the pain, guess I can't
help you too much there. We still have a lot of that.
But Chuck, my husband, guess I should use his
name...LOL, is on Neuronton and Balcofen right now. It seems
to help but I don't think anything helps all the
way. Chuck does range of motion about every day. At
least some of them. It takes about an hour to do a full
workout. Driving...well, now that is something we are just
getting started in. The things they can do are really
great. You have so many questions it is hard to answer
them all and I am sure some of the others will answer
as well. They probably have but I haven't gotten
that far in reading yet...LOL<br
Florida...oops says that under my name I think..LOL oh well.
Chuck is 49 and I am 47. Will be glad to help anytime.

i! I guess you some of you might have led one.
The Para-Quad mailing list is part of the "devotee"
group. What, you ask is a "devotee"? Someone who is
attracted to, and sexually aroused by a disability. The
person doesn't really matter, it is the disbility they
are interested in. A while back I did some research,
found some web sites, and that is what I finally found
out. There are "wannabes" (that is what they really call
themselves) they are people who are desirous of having a
disability. Many to the point of becoming "pretenders" to
fulfill this need. One woman in the case study was
attracted to men with leg braces. She finally married one
(polio) and later in life he required a wheelchair. She
would make him put his braces on to have sex. After
much therapy it was discovered that she didn't get
much parental attention. But there was a neighbor girl
with polio, who the parents always admired as she
walked by their house. So this woman was trying to
recapture that attention. I personally, found it repulsive.
Are we to worry when we meet someone, and they act
interested? I have found, as a female in a chair, that the
only men interested are "caregiver" types. I am, and
have always been fiercely independent, mentally and
physically, so I can't walk, big deal! I could not be in that
type of relationship. And men who like an independent
woman take one look at a w/c and turn the other way
(OKay, they WALK the other way!) enough of this, I just
took a quick trip to LAughlin, Kingman area, had to
visit a few golf courses up there, about 5 hours each
way, now I need to chill out... regards, Geri

hello [INLINE]
aura,<br
one you talked to didn't know and referred you to the
IRS then you need someone more qualified. Be sure to
tell them about everything, there are special tax
credits in certain states for disabled people. If your
state is one of them, you want to be sure to get those
credits. Find a qualified CPA. It will definitely be worth
the cost. Those tax credits here in California add up
to almost $3,000 in additional deductions. That is
considerable. Find someone who will make sure you get all you
are entitled to.<br

lavil 100 mg at bedtime helps Dave's pain. It's

that is very useful for chronic pain. Ask your doc.
Also, Dave was very scared of learning how to drive

driving ever since. He wasn't injured in a car though, he
fell out of a tree. You will become more independent
as your arms become stronger and you heal a little

t depends on how Workers Compensation has
classified it, and what state you are in. You should talk to
a local tax person there and show them the 1099.
Usually reimbursement for lost wages is taxable (like you
earned it) but it depends on how it was awarded in the
lawsuit, etc. Just because they did not take out taxes
does not mean it is not taxable. And different states
have different laws as to taxability of benefits. That
is why you need a local accountant to look at the
1099.<br

y name is Lisa and Laura gave me this info to
this page. THANK YOU Finally someone to talk to about
my injury. I am 26 and was injured in '97 in a car
accident. I am a T-12/L-1 complete. I live in a small town
in northern WI and have nobody to talk to for advice
or help. I have a 5yr old daughter and was recently
married with 2 more step daughters ages 5 and 8. My
husband and I have been together after my accident, I
have went back to work part time at a bank where I
worked before my SCI, and hopefully plan on having more
children later. I have extreme pains in my legs that no
medication is helping and have so many questions from pain
pills to cleaning catheters to driving again...etc...I
really hope I can get to know you and get some advice. I
can sometimes feel warmth on my left leg but couldn't
feel it if I was burned. My right leg was also
amputated above the knee in my accident. My husband and I
have recently just built a new home and are finishing
the basement now but I still don't have my upstairs
all accessible(like my shower) My husband lifts me
everywhere and I know I need to start being more
independant. I have Herrington rods in my back but it has
healed really well. How often do you do range of motion,
are your muscles tightening up? I hope someone can
offer me some advice on pain. I have what they call
nerve shocks which feel like stabbing or shooting pains
in my long left leg up to my hip. I scream and cry
sometimes it hurts so bad all day every day but there is no
cure just have to learn to deal with it and hope it
lessens later in life. Well I will try and see if anyone
is around Sunday aftenoon sometime.. Have a good
weekend and thank you Laura for contacting me :)
ave has a TENS unit (transcutaneous electrical
stimulation) that he likes for pain in his back and side. The
docs or physical therapists can help him try one out
(PT is more likely to have one he can try). Dave's on
medicines for spasms but he told his doc he didn't want to
take the kind that made him goofy and they gave him
something else. <br
Good day, Luis.
I declare that your disorder is not problem for doctor represented by

network of many specialists to treat everyone who need this. So the
price for the patients begins from EUR 100 000 depanding from specific
case. First of all I need the following information about you: age,
case history and the full diagnosis.
We are located in Kiev, Ukraine. So you will have to arrive here, if
you are interested in our service. It is better that you will find the
agent for paper work and send him on a mission to Kiev.

ow Laura - my son is going through the same
thing. He can close his eyes and guess which leg is
being tapped and is right 9 times out of 10. This is a
fairly new experience. His injury was 5/9/98. He just
got with a new doc and he didn't say much about it,
just gave him more drugs. He is hoping to get more
info when he starts up with his therapy

ave can feel when you tap on his knees and he's
been able to feel this ever since he got injured. He's
T 7-8, incomplete. Since the time since he was
injured, he's started feeling hot air blowing on his legs
from an electric heater and some sensation from warm
water hitting him in the shower. It seems like he's
able to feel me touch his back down to about where T
10 is one one side but not the other side. (It used
to be at level T-7, so it's improving some I think).
I'm a nurse so I can assess these things pretty
reliably. Like someone said, the docs won't commit to
anything. Has this ever happened to anyone else? He can
feel a finger in his rectum and sometimes has pain
when he sticks a catheter in. It seems weird that he
can feel these things but not others. He can feel
warm water flowing on his legs but burned himself
badly when he sat a hot dish on his legs. He can't feel
touch at all below about his waist. He did feel it when
they gave him a shot in the hip in the ER one night
though. Can anyone enlighten us on all this? It's
strange. Is it a hopeful sign or will it always be this
way or what? (Injured 11/97).<br
here were two new paras on Circle of Friends and I told them about this site!
Thanks for telling us.<br

Hello everybody! If you use intermittent catheters please contact me
for a free info pack and free samples. This system is designed for
people who have had problems with urinary tract infections. I have
contracts with all major manufacturers, Mentor, Rusch,Bard,
Coloplast, Kendall, etc. Transient flora is the main cause of
infections, so learn how to prevent this transfer of bacteria.
Washing your hands is not as affective as believed. It does help but
to make sure you are protected as much as possible, try the sterile
procedure. If you are interested, please reply with a name, physical
mailing address, contact number(not requiered), size of catheters
you use(specify if it is for you or someone else-male or female),
and if you have medicare(special requirments) or a private insurance
carrier. I will send out the info as soon as I recieve the request.
Thank you.
That's great. How much is all of this going to be costing you in the long run? Have you been to see the doctors in China yet? What has the process been for you?

o you do taxes? I am trying to find out if the
money workmen's comp paid me because I couldn't work
after my husband got hurt is taxable. I got a 1099 form
about it and it was listed under #7, nonemployee
compensation. It was considered to be reimbursement for my lost
wages or for actually doing the physical care he
needed. They didn't deduct any taxes.<br

am here Karen on and off. It is tax season now,
so we are really busy. Plus I have posted stuff
twice in here in the last ten days and it has never
shown up, and I have just been to busy to re-post it.
Michael is doing better, we are also trying to plan our
summer house projects. We are going to put in all new
doors and windows in the house in the hopes of making
the temperature more controllable. Michael is very
hot/cold sensitive and these are thirty year old doors and
windows. Then that leads into other projects, like a new
back patio, oh, and while we are doing that maybe we
could get at fountain....<br
:)<br
check in more.<br

It is not necessary to change.
Survival is not mandatory.

Hi Michelle,
I'm Stacy and paralyzed T 7/8 from a rare form of encephalitis 4 years ago. I came home on my own to live alone and found great difficulty in finding services I needed. Moving with my parents wasn't an option for me so I did it on my own. funny, if I had kids, I could get anything I wanted. My social worker was great when it came to paper pushing but when it came to helping me in a way that would require her to pick up the phone she did horribly. I found that I had a talent for finding services
so
I went back to school last year and now 31. I decided to major in social work so I can go back and help others with disabilities. I think it's great that you have that in mind. God knows what's best for you and
will direct you to do the right thing. Good luck with that and jump in for a chat any time.

Hey Dennis. How are you. Where are you from. I am a paraplegic also. Complete. Lets talk I have done a lot of research on spinal cord injury since may 4 2002 the day of my accident. I understand a lot. If you want to chat just write to me I may know some things that may be of some use trust me. My name is Luis I am 20 years old. Our injuries differ. I am a T-5. Ypu should have more use of your trunk that I do but our injury is relatively the same. (paraplegic) Do you have home therapy equipment? Questions about catheterization? sex? spinal cor injury? anything? I know a lot. We are still ver independant. Life is not so bad! This is my story:
In May friend came up (to New York) from college in Florida, to visit his family. He metioned to me that he would be driving his girlfriends parents car back down because she needed a car down there. I told him I woul go with him. We left at 8pm Friday May 3rd. He drove through New Jersey and Maryland. I drove through Virginia and North Carolina. We switched driving at South Carolina because I was tired. I did not buckle up (for whatever reason: trust or tiredness) I fell asleep in the passenger seat. He fell asleep while driving. When he woke up he realized he was going off road. When he steered to go back on he oversteered. The van slid driver first sideways into a lot of trees. The car crashed into the trees at 80mph. I was not buckled up so I bounced around in the van. The police officer told my parents that my head was beneath the dashboard and legs on top of the head rest. I had both lungs collapsed, broken shoulder blades, 3 broken ribs, and broke T-5 T-6 and
T-7 and had a nasty gash on tho top of my head. It was a miracle how I was found. God is good. (My friend is ok he was buckled up)
A passer by saw steam comming up from the side of the road. He pulled to check it out and realized it was a van. He called 911 where the police were 2 minutes away. The miracle is he was an army medic on his way home from work. The second car to pull over was a nurse on her way to work. The right people were there at the right time. I spent 2 months in MUSC until I came back to NY for rehab for 1 month. My life is better than ever. I am happy an grateful.
I can be some help trust me just write back... Take care hope to hear from you soon...
