Thanks guys

want to thank you guys for saying those great
things. Even though it made me cry. But then I think
maybe that is what I needed...a good cry. It has been a
bit tough. But I kow I will get through it. They told
Chuck he had a right to feel down now and then and I
guess maybe the same goes for me. It is just so hard to
sit here and not be able to help him. And when I do
it never turns out right anyway. It just seems like
my best isn't good enough. But the weekend is coming
and I will get some rest and I know I will feel
better. I talked to my mom today and she was a big help.
I have a couple of hours in the afternoon when I
don't have to be running. And I love to ride my
motorcycle. So she said that is what I should do. It makes me
feel free and relaxes me. Does that sound stupid? But
I think I am going to do just that. Even if it is
for a half hour. I really am sorry to be a bummer.
But again thanks for being there. <br
soon as I figure out how to say what I mean I will
email you. I know how I feel but not real good at
saying it. It is so good to know that everyone is out
there. <br
could just get the rest of my family to give me one
once in a while I think I would feel a lot better. But
you know how kids are...they forget that we are
people too. <br
the weekend will be my cheery self again. I promise.

FOR THE OLD DUDE

2006-12-30 23:03:19

CHALK ONE UP FOR THE OLD DUDE
An older, white haired man walked into a jewelry store one Friday
evening with a beautiful young gal at his side.
He told the jeweler he was looking for a special ring for his girlfriend.
The jeweler looked through his stock and brought out a $5,000 ring and showed it to him. The old man said, "I don't think you understand, I want something very special."
At that statement, the jeweler went to his special stock and brought another ring over.
"Here's a stunning ring at only $40,000," the jeweler said.
The young lady's eyes sparkled and her whole body trembled
with excitement. The old man seeing this said, "We'll take it."
The jeweler asked how payment would be made and the old man stated, by check. " I know you need to make sure my check is good, so I'll write it now and you can call the bank Monday to verify the funds and I'll pick the ring up Monday afternoon," he said.
Monday morning, a very teed-off jeweler phoned the old man.
"There's no money in that account."
"I know", said the old man, "but can you imagine the weekend I had?"

OK GUYS

2006-12-30 08:24:51

keep checking in and no one is talking. I hope
that everything is ok. <br
here. Well, kind of. Went to doc for hip and pain.
(Chuck). We have to see another doc on the 2nd for the
hip. But our doc said that if it isn't set right it
can cause all kinds of trouble. I sure hope it isn't
that. I hate to think of him having to have another
surgery.<br
that is what they think is causing most of the pain.
Is anyone familiar with this kind of thing? Is it
possible to have surgery for that to take some of it out?
Or will that just create more scar tissue? Sometimes
I wish I was a brain or a doctor. I always wanted
to be a nurse. Now I wish I had done it. I have
learned alot in the last year and a half but sure could
use more knowledge. <br
give me. <br
so. I guess all of it is starting to get to me.
Sometimes I feel like running away. I have thought of
getting him a nurse so I could have a day off but right
now I feel that wouldn't be good for him. I feel
really selfish for thinking of myself. I can't win.
Sometimes it seems like I have the whole world on my
shoulders. I bet you guys get that way too. I hope not too
much though. Or maybe I am just being silly. But it
really seems like things will never get any better.
Sorry to be a downer. I really try to be up and happy.
<br
Sorry for not being upbeat. <br
well<br

2006-12-30 00:49:32

While she was "flying" down the road yesterday (10 miles over the limit), a woman passed over a bridge only to find a cop with a radar gun on the other side lying in wait. The cop pulled her over, walked up to the car, and with that classic patronizing smirk we all know and love, asked,"What's your hurry?" To which she replied, "I'm late for work." "Oh yeah," said the cop, "what do you do?" "I'm a rectum stretcher," she responded. The cop stammered, "A what? A rectum stretcher? And just what does a rectum stretcher do?" "Well," she said, "I start by inserting one finger, then I work my way up to two fingers, then three, then four, then with my whole hand in. I work from side to side until I can get both hands in, and then I slowly but surely stretch, until it's about 6 feet wide." "And just what the hell do you do with a 6 foot asshole?" he asked. "You give him a radar gun and park him behind a bridge...."

i & hope everyone is having a good
weekend!<br
friend had gotten his driver's license that day & he & 4
other boys went girl chasing. His friend, Scott, saw an
oncoming car with one headlight, thought it was a
motorcycle, swerved at the last minute & overcorrected. The
car rolled 3 times throwing all the boys out (no
seatbelts) except Brent. The car hit a telephone pole and
stuck there! About 2 feet off the ground. Brent was
thrown through the car under the dash. His heart stopped
& they had to extricate him which was a precarious
situation because they were concerned that the car would
fall onto him or the paramedics. He smashed his right
lower leg & has a rod there now. And of course injured
his spinal cord. It's been 14 years for him so he's
learned an awful lot and adjusted rather well.<br
injury is T-1. He is paralyzed from under the armpits
down. He is very fortunate to have use of his arms and
hands. Technically, he should be a quad, but I guess he
narrowly missed the nerves. When they were operating on
his injury they accidentally (oh YAY!) cut the nerve
to his right arm & hand & he lost use of it! But he
worked real hard & had a great PT who told him - "you
WILL get this arm back". And he did! I think the
nerves regenerated or healed or something. He also has
only 70% of his lung capacity.<br
clear on all the details as I was not in his life then.
We've been together 5 months. VERY happy! *Big Smile*

She was a victim of the tidal wave disaster in Phuket, Thailand and nobody knows who she is so we are hoping if we distribute this EMAIL around the world someone God willing will know her.
Please don't just delete this - your contribution could be the one
that solves this little girl's problem. Even if you are one of the people who believes that it is always someone else's obligation to help the misfortunate, please know that forwarding this will cost you nothing. Let's help!! Forward this to everyone you can.

was in a motorcycle accident November 8, 1997. We are
so lucky he is even alive. (Sorry guys but she
doesn't know about it and I know you are bored with
it...LOL) He had so many other injuries along with the sci
that it has taken a long time to get "Back on his
feet". He broke his collar bone, 15 ribs, ruptured both
lungs, broke right heel, dislocated his right hip
(pushed it under his pelvic bone), and of course the
spine. So there you have it. <br
now....then I will shut up for a bit. I get wordy alot, sorry

guy was never going to walk again. They thought he
was out but he heard them. Anyway, if they didn't set

my opinion I think it can but not sure. We are going
to get it looked at but thought I would pick you
guy's brain and go in armed...LOL<br
shutting up. Hope everyone has the best weekend. Our

will get over that real quick :>) Refuse to be any
older than say 20 ! <br

timbuktu

There was a contest to see who could come up with the best poem ending in the word "Timbuktu".

It was down to the final two contestants, a well known college professor and an old ranch hand from Texas.

The professor was chosen to go first and right away he starts with :
"Miles and miles of sand,
riding in a caravan,
camels two by two,
destination, Timbuktu."

The crowd cheered for the professor.

It was the ranch hands turn and just before the buzzer sounded he blurted out :
"Tim and I went hunting buck,
we came upon a maidens tent,
they were three,
we were two,
I bucked one and Tim bucked two."

what" and I agree you can do anything you want. Wish I
could get Chuck to see that. I make him do things he
doesn't want just to show him he can. Then he says...gee
guess I can do that. DAH!! We are thinking of going to
Orlando in May. Can you give me a name of a place to stay
with what we might need? Know you are the resident
expert on hotels in that area. If you want to do some
yard work you can come on down and do mine...LOL I
have so much to do and they just won't make that sun
stay up longer for me. <br
would get a pic up on the page. I really would like to
"meet" you. And I do want to say thank you again for all
the help you have given me. This site is the best
thing that ever happened to me. All of you have been so
helpful. And you Geri, have been a lifesaver. I hope to
return the favor someday. <br
and hope to hear from you again soon. And you always
have something to add. I love reading your posts. So
keep posting!!!<br

If you're here, raise your hand

2006-12-21 02:55:04

k, Ok, I check in quickly at night, feel I have
nothing to add, so I just check out, and go on to bed. My
life is going very well, in case you wanted to know.
In fact, I couldn't ask for a better life, and if I
have to live it in a chair, OH WELL! I have gotten
over it. A young man I know and work with today, said,
"Geri, it hasn't really affected you, you still do
everything you used to, maybe more, and definately more than
most people" I had to correct him, and say "I don't
mow the lawn" But I have even gotten very good at
taking dumpsters to the curb. And there was a time I
didn't think I would be able to pick up doggy do, darn,
I figured that one out, too! Once the kids went off
to college, it became more of a priority than it
used to be! I have to say, I feel that if I didn't
work, I might be very close to suicidal. Unless I had a
lot of money and could be philanthropic, or just
spend exhorbitant amounts of money on doing fun things!
With my job, I have a great reason to get up every
moring at 5:30 and GET MOVING! ALways have plans for the
weekend, if I don't it seems to just drag on.... Have had
great weather, so have been gardening, planting TONS of
flowers, and even sunbathing! I have a thick pad on my
chaise lounge, but it was still low, so I took the lower
portion and folded it back up, so that the middle was
alot thicker. This made it high enough that I could
transfer, and I kept my knees bent anyway, so the missing
pad at the bottom didn't matter,(did put a strap
around my knees to keep them together, while bent up)
and with the head elevated, I didn't notice the
difference in thickness from middle to top. Does this make
any sense??? Hope so, try not to eat your hearts out
you guys in cold weather! <br
taxes are finsihed, and mailed! Smartest thing I ever
did was have extra $ withheld. In addition to
claiming single/0, I add an extra $100 per check to my
with holding. It is the best FORCED savings account in
the world. Who cares that it doesn't pay interest. It
would probably be less than $50 anyway. So may refund
is automatically increased by $2,400! I can't wait.
In AZ we have an opportunity to elect to have more
state withholdings, also. I have 30% of federal
withheld, the standard is 10%, so there us another $1,500
or so EXTRA. All this is so nice to get at one time.
If I had the little extra every month, at the end of
the year, we'd have a few more pair of new shoes, a
few more dinners out, and maybe a quick ski trip. no
thanks, I'll take the tax refund. I guess that's all my
news and small talk.<br

J.J.: I need some help, please!?

2006-12-19 18:47:27

Hi! My name is J.J. I was in a boating accident on Aug. 4,2001. I
broke my L1 V. I've got many questions and I hope someone can please
help. Right now I can feel touch all the way to my toes and I can
flex to my knees, but,.. I have the most intense, sharp, take your
breath away pains in my legs all of the time. Is this normal and what
can you do for it? Also, I've been looking for some kind of therapy
equipment that moves your legs around in a bicycle motion. What is
the best mobile wheelchair? One for a person on the go! In addition,
is there any websites for "Singles" with disabilities? I've noticed
since my accident that the dating scene for a woman with a disability
is not very forgiving. If there's anyone out there with the same
problem, please let me know! That's all of my questions for right now
and I welcome any response. Thanks and have a Great Day!

I"m a disabled chicago police officer. I sustained a cervical spine
injury and a rotator injury during a domestic disturbance with a
violent mental patient. He was battering his family and attacked
some old people at a public park when we had our confortation.
I'm now very limited and was an extremely active person. It's been
almost 2 years since my injury. I also have a incurable liver
disease which I take chemo and it really has affected me both
physically and mentally. My liver treatment ends in 11 weeks, thank
God.
My wife and three daughters are the light that keeps me going and I
feel very blessed.

time. I wish there was something I could say to help
you. I can understand how you feel. We have been
having the same trouble here lately. Never thought of
cutting the nerves. But that does sound awful drastic.
The meds don't work here either. But the pain isn't
really in Chuck's legs. Can understand that he wouldn't
want it done. Kind of puts all the hope out the
window. Unless they can redo them later. I really hope
things get better. Keep us posted and our prayers are
with you two. If I can help in anyway even if it is
just a shoulder to cry on feel free to email me or

Hi Guys

2006-12-15 17:59:45

orry I have been gone for a bit. Things have
been busy...well busier than usual. Chuck's new chair
got here yesterday. It is really neat. But it will
take him a bit to get used to it. Alot lighter and
easier to use. He got one in a Forest Green. Really
pretty. So now he gets to learn how to use one all over
again...LOL <br
here too, Betty. They are over by the beach and you
can ride along the beach..kind of. It is next to the
road but you can see the water. We also have a health
trail that winds through the park. As soon as chuck
gets to feeling a bit better we are going to go over
there and take a long walk. Good for both of
us...LOL<br
for our chats. I miss them. But lately Chuck has been
up all night and I can't sleep if he isn't sleeping.
And we get home late from work. I think I told you he
is a workaholic...LOL<br

Doors, doors, doors

2006-12-15 03:57:10

i Everybody! One of the first things I mastered,
and am glad of it, was opening doors. If it opens
away from me, I give it a good push with my footrest,
and push (barge)my way through. If it opens toward
me, I get a good grip on the handle and back up. I
have yet to find a door I couldn't open. I spend alot
of time in industrial type buildings, and there are
many HEAVY doors. <br
not wide enough to enter. I have even been to some
restaurants, (Acapulco in Anaheim) where the hall way to the
bathroom didn't even allow me to get close to the ladies
room. I have been to at least a dozen restaurants where
none of the stalls accomodate a chair. This is when I
am really thankful I have a foley, with a plug, and
can really drain it into a container, anywhere. (even
discreetly under the table at a restuarant) Biggest dilemma,
couple weeks ago, when in Orlando, at the Mission Inn
(Howey in the Hills) there were two doors into ladies
room, No problem going in, but on the way out, after
going through first door, and it closing behind me,
there was not enough room to pull back the second door
to get out. So there I was, sitting in this little
space between two doors. I struggled with that for
about 10 minutes, finally managed to back my chair up
enough to keep the rear door open a bit(heavy) while I
opened the front. I then had the management put a door
stop on the interior door. Tho lobby there also had a
ladies room. Could not even get in the front door! Now
that I am good at doors, people often rush to help me,
then I barge on though, tell them "thanks for asking,
but I spent three months in the hospital and one
thing they taught me was opening doors." I often hold
it for others, they are usually aghast, which is
fun! Another fun thing, when going down a big (wide)
hill, sidewalk or pavement, I traverse (go from one
side to the other)it, like when skiing. It keeps the
speed under control, and is really fun. I did that at
the Phx open last week.<br
lovely weather. Probably high 60's to low 70's. I spent
all day in the back yard, planted flowers, painted
bookshelves, and did lots of yard work. Even got on the chaise
lounge and got some sun a took a little nap!<br
going to try to sell my house (too big with kids off to
college)this spring, so I have been trying to get eveything in
order. Best part is systematically going though
closets, cupboard, drawers & tossing stuff. What a good feeling!
Enough of my chatter. You all go out and have a GREAT
WEEK! <br

Dave Kelmer,

You are so right

2006-12-13 19:11:45

agree with you guys 100%. It is really stupid
the way they do things. Hey maybe we should all get
together and write some people. I did send a letter to
Sears but of course there was no reply...LOL Not that I
really expected one. The people that put in these
"Handicap" things should do so from a chair, then maybe they
would get it right. Think they should be made to sit in
a chair and use their own stuff. But I guess at
least they made some kind of effort. Even if it wasn't
the right way. <br
weekend. Going to watch the super bowl tonight. Daughter
called all excited...got a 1099 form from Ed
McMann...LOL She thinks she is going to win the $31 Mil. Would
be nice but think she is living in a dream world. My
mother in law is bad at that too. Sends in all these
things and she just KNOWS she is going to win. Reads
their stuff and forgets to see the "Maybe" and the "IF"
that goes before "You have won"...LOL But hey you
never know...LOL<br
soon. Really like our little chats. Take care and stay
well.<br

Sweepstakes...

2006-12-13 17:01:46

aren, several years ago I decided to actually go
ahead and fill out one those magazine contest
sweepstakes. Shoot I had nothing else to do and besides I was
convinced and still am that you don't have to subscribe to
a magazine to win. I think they know there are so
many people out there who THINK they have to subscribe
and who go ahead and actually subscribe that the
companies don't have to cheat. Anyway it seemd like I spent
three days cutting and pasting and reading the rules
and I had everything ready except for one last
sticker I was supposed to find and put somewhere and for
the life of me I couldn't find that sticker
anywhere--searched for three more days:>) and became convinced
that the sticker had never come in the first place. So
I threw the whole mess away and vowed never to
waste that much time again! lol<br

Hi Nancy...

2006-12-13 14:39:47

on't you just LOVE those places where the door
opens automctically as you near it? Course the only
place that I can think of that has that is the
Emergency Room, but still it sure is convenient!lol
Seriously I know what you mean. handicapped facilities
available if you can open the door which would take three
prizefighters and a weightlifter to do. :>) Take care, Betty

Sears etc. etc.

2006-12-13 02:08:36

just thought you would get a laugh out of this
one. When I go to the mall the only store that has a
handicap door is Penneys. The rest have a sign out side of
their doors if you are handicap let one of our sales
staff help you. Ha I need to get in and there is not a
sole that is around to open the door. Crazy huh! I
have noticed that so often. The town I live in just
built a brand new court house with in the last year and
all they have is a buzzer but that was out of reach!

safest thing to do. But he had fun and wasn't hurt so
maybe he won't do it again. If he does let me know and
I will ream him a new one...LOL <br
everyone has a great weekend. Not too sure there will be
an adventure this weekend. Super Bowl and all. Right

k Leslie, cough up the address for it...LOL I
think I would like to read this also. Can never have
too much info. Always learning, always looking. Used
to collect books by Stephen King...still do, but now
I find I collect anything I can get my hands on
that will help us through this. Boy, I look back and
think about how it was those first few weeks and can't
believe how far we have come. I used to tell chuck when
he was just starting to sit up that it would come.
He would say "I will never be able to sit by
myself." Now he sits, transfers, and does about anything
himself. I like telling him.."remember when you didn't
think you could do anything ever again?" Then we both
laugh and say yep now look at us. It sure is a great
feeling to know that we CAN do it.<br
has a great week. Going tomorrow to pick up my two
new Furbys. Can't wait. I am a spoiled little
kid...LOL<br

wish I had a dollar, well ok $5 for every time
Ed and I thought of a better way to do something and
kicked ourselves for not thinking of it before. It is a
constant process, and just when you think that's it,
there's no way to make things any easier, you will think
of something else and kick youself again. lol, don't
kick too hard. We've been dealing with this for 20
years and are still "rigging" I had a terrible pain in
my butt, could hardly move without tears, then after
I don't know how many weeks, we cut a hole in the
foam I was lying on and poofo--the pain was all but
gone, now why didn't we think of that sooner!...I have
an address for New Mobility, this is the site of
their message board where I've been posting for a few
months now. From there you can go to their chat room,
magazine, etc.

hi lisa,
i started a group too. thought i could make it a real hot number - i'm up to 16 members - most pretty quiet. i think most just need a good topic. watching our weight always seems to get the ball rolling. or maybe common problems like children, spouses, bowel programs, drugs, pressure sores, sleeping disorders.....
anyone got a favorite bump in the road?

Van for sale

2006-12-08 21:02:45

Hi Everybody
This is Bill Boy
If there is anyone out there looking for a cheap form of transportation I
have just what you need.
1991 Ford E250 Wheelchair Van (White)
Runs great 10,000 miles on transmission 126,000 over-all. Has
a Ricon Lift on side with elec. side doors, (lift is about 5 years old)
floor channels to lower you down in front of steering wheel so you
can drive from your wheel chair & hand controls. Air conditioning
works great, power windows & door locks. Not real pretty
to look at but will get you around for many years. It has been
a very reliable vehicle with NO trouble except for the transmission
at 115,000 mile and was completely rebuilt and a leak in the in a
hose on the air conditioning and that was completely rebuilt with
all new hoses and compressor with the new kind of freon.
The van has been drivin less then 1000 miles in the last two years.
I live in Arizona and if your interested or know anyone give me a call or
send me an e-mail for all the details. asking $2500 or best offer. Just
need to get rid of it, takn' up space
I could e-mail a picture if you would like to see what it looks like.

Nebraska Mule Deer/Whitetail Hunt for Physically Challenged

2006-12-08 04:05:54

From: BADF Disabled Services
Date: 06/24/05 07:20:25
To: Jeff Lucas
Subject: Nebraska Mule Deer/Whitetail Muzzleloader Hunt
Nebraska Mule Deer/Whitetail Hunt for Physically Challenged
I have an outfitter in Nebraska that is offering us 3 day
muzzleloader group hunt in Nebraska for a discounted rate. Hunters
can take either one whitetail or one mule deer, the hunt will take
place in December. They have about 75% whitetail and 25% mule
deer. Food plots and crossings will be hunted from blinds, and some
shooting houses on the property will be used when possible.
The cost will be $600 for the 3 day hunt, about $200 for
licenses/tags, and the expense of getting there. I am not certain
that license/tags are guaranteed, but it is likely that you would
draw. Meals and lodging are included. The facility is relatively
accessible, but the showers are regular fiberglass showers, no roll-
ins. If a hunter requires a non-hunting attendant, there will be no
charge for them. Below are some photos of deer taken there last
season.
They could take 5-6 hunters. If we have enough interest to pursue
this, BADF will offer hunters who have individual incomes of under
$20,000 annually a $400 Streamlight scholarship to help defray
costs. This scholarship will be paid as a reimbursement after the
hunt takes place. All hunters would have to pay a $300 deposit by
August 15th, 2005.
If that is something that you would seriously be interested in, let
me know by email as soon as possible. With adequate interest, we
can go forward with the hunt.

sn't it amazing the things that we have had to
learn on our own? Most of what I know we learned by
trial and error. No one told us. New Mobility helped us
alot the first year or two also. It still does.
Sometimes I read about stuff in their and think, gee, why
didn't we know this already? I guess I never think about
the stuff like Magic Bullets (which I also learned
about from New Mobility) and other little things,
because I just assume everyone already know about them. I
would just bet we all have a wealth of information that
we just don't think about, that could help the new
people on this list. Michael has been SCI since 1989.
You learn alot in nine years.<br

hanks to all of you guys for the info. I sure do
appreciate it. I will look into it right away. Seems like
the rehab would tell you about these things. But then
Chuck had to leave rehab early because of a bedsore. No
point in staying if he couldn't work. And he could do

Fwd: Action Needed Regarding Senator Frist and Stem Cells

CAMR ACTION ALERT:
CALLS NEEDED TO SENATE MAJORITY LEADER
BILL FRIST

Yesterday, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) stated that he does not presently believe that the current restrictions on funding of embryonic stem cell research should be eased. He did, however, say that the Senate would consider legislation regarding this issue sometime next month, and that it is time to review the current policy.

BACKGROUND

In July, 2001, Senator Frist issued a ten point plan on stem cell research. In that plan, he stated his support for embryonic stem cell research if the stem cells come from IVF embryos that would otherwise be discarded. He also stated that there should be some limits on the number of stem cell lines, but noted that additional, new stem cell lines would need to be created.

On August 9, 2001, President Bush announced that federal funding for embryonic stem cell research would be permitted only for existing stem cells that were in the process of being obtained before August 2001. President Bush's policy was more restrictive than that called for by Senator Frist.

On May 24, the House passed bipartisan legislation, HR 810, to expand the policy to allow research on stem cells that come from in vitro fertilized embryos that are created for reproductive purposes, would otherwise be discarded, and are donated with informed consent by the couple and without financial inducement. HR 810 was approved by a 238 to 194 vote.

S. 471, sponsored by Senators Specter (R-PA), Harkin (D-IA), Hatch (R-UT), Feinstein (D-CA), Smith (R-OR), and Kennedy (D-MA), is the companion to the House-passed bill. It currently has 41 cosponsors and is awaiting action in the Senate.

ACTION NEEDED
